Hands-on, will manage two people, in office 3 days a week The Opportunity: Modernize the accounting function (currently not using Netsuite to the fullest potential) within a $50M SaaS leader in the supply chain mid-market vertical.
As Controller, you will oversee the financial operations of the company including preparing financial reports, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and managing a small team of accountants (2).
You will serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and tax accountants and be responsible for month-end and year-end closing activities, reconciliations, general ledger reviews and streamlining controls. Responsibilities : Monitor company financial reports and identify opportunities to reduce costs. Prepare accurate and timely monthly financial reports. Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and banking activities. Manage a small team of Accountants, providing guidance and support as needed. Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors. Perform month-end and year-end closing activities, including income statement and balance sheet reconciliation, account analysis, and general ledger review. Assess, execute, and streamline policies, procedures, and controls to ensure compliance and efficiency. Go above and beyond formal job responsibilities to contribute to the overall success of the Finance Department. Support Finance Department initiatives, such as software and systems implementation, through research, planning assistance, and participation in implementation activities. Ensure timely billing and implement cash management techniques to optimize cash collection. Prepare journal entries and reconciliations. Review and approve semi-monthly payroll. Collaborate closely with external auditors and tax accountants during annual financial statement audits and relevant tax filings. Prepare sales tax filings. Work closely with the Revenue Operations function to review and coordinate commission payments. Responsible for accounting of commissions, including monthly accruals and deferred commission amortization. Maintain a strong working knowledge of G Suite, Advanced Excel, and Netsuite. Experience with Netsuite Advanced Revenue Management is a plus. Ensure compliance with ASC606 revenue recognition standards. Maintain the chart of accounts, organize accounting files, and implement a system of controls over accounting transactions. Provide financial analyses as needed. Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants, as required. Manage the preparation and communication of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Analyze variances on a monthly basis and collaborate closely with the FP&A function during forecast and budgeting processes. Experience in a fast-paced startup environment is a plus. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, CPA certification is preferred. Proven experience as a Controller or similar role, with a strong understanding of accounting principles, practices, and regulations. Experience with financial reporting, month-end and year-end closing activities, and general ledger management. Proficiency in accounting software, especially Netsuite, and Advanced Excel skills. Strong knowledge of revenue recognition standards (ASC606) and commission accounting. Ability to lead and manage a team effectively. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Detail-oriented and capable of meeting strict deadlines. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with various departments and external partners. Adaptability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
