Controller - Healthcare, Non-profit Location Richmond, VA : Overview We are seeking the next Controller for our client, MEDRVA Healthcare an independent, not-for-profit healthcare organization committed to delivering high-quality healthcare services to the community. With two state-of-the-art outpatient surgery centers, sixteen operating and procedure rooms, an imaging center, the region's only low vision center, and the MEDRVA Foundation, we provide comprehensive and compassionate care to our patients. This new, full time Controller reports to the President and CEO at the Richmond, VA office near Stony Point.
The Controller is hands on building and leading the accounting team and will create and maintain processes and procedures necessary to perform duties including: monthly/year end closing; financial reporting; budgeting; strengthening internal controls; oversight of cash flow; coordination of tax, payroll and debt payments; and compliance with external reporting requirements. This is a pivotal role in the financial operations of the organization providing financial analysis for the leadership team, and ensuring overall accuracy, compliance, and strategic alignment.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities Leadership:
Provide accounting / financial leadership and guidance to the organization, aligning strategies with overall business objectives. Provide accounting leadership for the Senior Accountant, the AR/Billing team, and AP/Payroll while fostering a culture of communication, continuous improvement, accountability, and collaboration. Two to three team members. Manage the day-to-day operations of the department. Communicate complex financial information in a clear and concise manner to stakeholders. Provide financial education and guidance to other departments. Work with team members to develop annual goals; monitor goals quarterly and provide oversight and guidance. Prepare and deliver annual evaluations for direct reports. Accounting, Financial Reporting, Budgeting & Forecasting:
Responsible for timely month-end close and the creation and analysis of financial reports including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Responsible for the creation and implementation of accounting-related operational controls. Ensure accounting systems and methodologies comply with GAAP, all regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. Responsible for budget creation and tracking; organize and lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to develop accurate and achievable financial plans. Drive the forecasting process to provide timely and insightful financial information to support decision-making. Monitor and manage the organization's cash flow to ensure liquidity and financial stability. Implement strategies to optimize working capital. Strategic and Operational Planning:
Collaborate with executive leadership to develop and implement financial strategies that support organizational goals. Work with other department managers to maximize efficiency and cost management. Review capital needs and evaluate projected returns to ensure optimum return on investments. Technology, Process and Continuous Improvement:
Leverage technology to streamline financial processes and reporting capabilities. Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and areas for improvement. Provide recommendations to optimize financial performance and support strategic decision-making. Other assigned duties or special projects as needed. Key Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required. Previous senior level accounting position with supervisory and leadership responsibilities required. CPA highly preferred. 3 - 5 years of healthcare accounting preferred. Non-profit exp preferred. MBA, MS-Accounting or MHA a plus. Medicare and third-party payer knowledge helpful. Proficiency in accounting software programs esp. MS Dynamics Great Plains. Other systems include Paylocity, HST, and Cognizant. Highly skilled with MS office with an in-depth knowledge of Excel. Payroll administration experience in Paylocity desirable. Candidates must be detail-oriented, highly organized, and comfortable working in results-oriented, collaborative. Represent company in a professional manner to all clients, employees, vendors, and the community. Successfully complete pre-employment background screening including a drug screening.
