Operating in a highly regulated industry, the L&C teams are essential to Nova Credit's business and strategy. In this highly cross-functional role, you would be relied upon for your legal and commercial acumen and have broad exposure to Nova Credit's business operations and product development process.Our business is complex, and as a team member, you would frequently be asked to help bring clarity to complex, multifaceted issues. If you're an attorney who loves wrestling with complex problems, coming up with simple and practical solutions, and striving for ways to move the business forward, we'd love to hear from you!This is a remote, full-time position reporting to the General Counsel.WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH YOU'LL:Get to know Nova Credit's organizational structure, key agreements, and legal processesDive into our privacy program Understand our current product offerings and market positioning as well as how those products developed, the legal involvement at various stages, and processes that may be led versus supported by legal team membersFamiliarize yourself with key regulatory frameworksGet to know the company's working style, goals, mission, and valuesBecome acquainted with your fellow Novansand key cross-functional stakeholdersWITHIN THE FIRST QUARTER YOU'LL:Dive deeper into current products, key regulatory and privacy risks features and risks, challenges, and areas for future developmentWork hand in hand with the product, data, and engineering teams on new feature and product development and positioningReview and develop a deep understanding of company policies and procedures that affect customersGet to know the credit reporting and analysis industry - including bureaus, financial institutions, credit providers, and other fintechsAnalyze current contracts and advise business on product requirements and limitationsGet to know our corporate organizational structure and work with key stakeholders on ongoing company organizational management projectsUnderstand key vendor and supplier relationships and contracts and how this affects product structuring and developmentNegotiate and structure contracts with key suppliersWITHIN THE FIRST YEAR YOU'LL:Become a key advisor on legal, regulatory, and privacy risks and issues associated with products and featuresGuide our product, engineering, and data teams on navigating credit reporting and other related regulatory frameworks and becoming a thought partner for new ideas related to our product strategiesHelp guide legal aspects of international expansion strategies and required licensingAdvise on implications of data protection and transfer lawsCoordinate and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent implementation of legal guidance and alignment on riskAnalyze our legal processes, identify issues, and help the organization become more efficientKeep up on the industry and revise and update policies, forms, and agreements where necessaryWork on cross-functional company initiatives and other special projectsHelp our Go-to-Market and marketing teams with respect to product positioning and completing regulatory or compliance reviews by customersHelp us develop our legal organization as we expand into new regionsYOUR SKILLSET:Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and must be licensed to practice lawExperience working with product, data, and engineering teams guiding product development and assessing risk for consumer-facing financial data productsUnderstanding and familiarity with applicable regulatory and compliance frameworks, including Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Gramm-Leach-Bliley, and other federal and state financial regulations and requirements; experience implementing internal programs and policies based on these regulationsWorking knowledge of US privacy laws and requirements and hands-on experience implementing privacy programs at growing companiesExposure to foreign privacy regimes and the ability to get up to speed quicklyExperience with international product expansion and adaptation$215,000 - $264,000 a yearThe Base Salary Range is for U.S.-based candidates and is dependent on individual experience, skills, education, location, and qualifications.We consider all elements of compensation to be a part of the value we provide to Novans.
