The International WELL Building Institute is looking for a detail-oriented and high integrity individual who is committed to making an impact on the health and well-being of people all over the world to support the Standard Development (SD) team. The SD team oversees the development of the WELL Building Standard (WELL Standard) and associated WELL programs. The WELL Standard is a library of holistic evidence-based strategies for improving human health and well-being. These strategies are distributed amongst 10 impact categories called concepts, including the Sound concept. Today, thousands of projects encompassing approximately 5 billion square feet are applying WELL across more than 125 countries.The WELL Sound concept aims to provide a comprehensive and holistic approach to addressing the concerns of acoustical comfort through research-based design considerations that buildings can accommodate for the purposes of improving occupant health and well-being.This consultant's key responsibility is to provide expertise related to the Sound concept, including topics related to noise mitigation strategies, on-site measurements of acoustic conditions, and the utilization of sound masking and other audio systems.You will advise the Standard Development team on how acoustical comfort parameters can create healthier and more equitable and inclusive spaces for all. Responsibilities:Perform periodic reviews of the WELL Sound concept to ensure that it aligns with the latest industry, scientific and medical research, meets diverse user needs and raises the bar for healthy, high-performing buildings around the world. Conduct thorough literature or technical reviews on methodologies for the design and management of sound to improve human health and well-being.Contribute to the development and evolution of the WELL Sound concept and associated resources by contributing to amendments and development of new strategies. In particular:Design-based acoustic interventions to create inclusive workplace spaces, especially considering the needs of individuals who are neurodiverse.Assessment of new acoustic technologies.Identification of appropriate metrics and measurement techniques for measuring sound in the built environment.Respond to technical inquiries from WELL project teams.Engage and support meetings with the WELL Sound Concept Advisory – a group of health experts and building practitioners brought together to advise on the WELL Sound concept – including, helping organize quarterly conference calls to discuss and solicit technical advice, feedback and guidance on the evolution of the Sound concept. Candidate Profile & Prerequisites:Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant field (e.g., acoustic engineering)5+ years of professional experience working at a design, engineering, architecture, sustainability consulting firm or other relevant organizations related to acoustics Demonstrated experience with sustainable and/or healthy building design processesExcellent written communication, translating technical ideas clearly and concisely to a global audienceCandidate Preferred Qualifications:Master's or Ph.D degree in a relevant field (e.g., Acoustic Design, Architecture)Professional engineer, registered architect or INCE Board CertificationDemonstrated field experience in on-site testing, installation or commissioning of acoustic parameters or products in buildingsProven record implementing building certification systemsWELL AP or WELL Faculty designationNOTE:Please submit a cover letter & resume; applications without a cover letter will not be considered. This is a part-time consultant position that would be engaged on an as-need basis for approximately 40 hours per month.Please submit a cover letter & resume; applications without a cover letter will not be considered. Candidates must have valid and current work authorization in the United States to be considered.Location: RemoteThe company does not provide relocation assistance or compensation.The company is not sponsoring work visas for this position.Compensation:This is a part-time consultant position that would be engaged on an as-need basis for approximately 40 hours per month.
