Responsibilities
• Follow written and verbal directions to complete assigned tasks• Inspect locomotive before run and verify fuel, sand, water, and FRA requirements• Read switching orders and operate locomotive according to rules and regulations• Read and interpret wayside signals, track warrants, and railroad rules• Communicate with crew and yard workers via radio• Assist in throwing switches and performing switching operations• Inspect locomotive after run for damaged or defective equipment• Maintain records of switched cars• Coordinate switching crew activities if necessary• Couple and uncouple cars, throw track switches, and set brakes
Requirements
• High school education or GED• Ability to pass training and required testing
