POSITION DESCRIPTION: Reviews the proposed concrete mix designs as submitted by the contractors and producers to ensure compliance with the Department's specifications.

Provides support to the State Structural Materials Engineer and his staff, District Materials and Construction Engineers, Consultants, Contractors, and Materials Producers concerning specifications for Portland concrete mixes, admixtures, epoxies, welding procedures, grouts and other construction products (i.e. brick, block, pipes, precast beams, etc.) Enters data into the Materials Acceptance and Certification (MAC) system.

Tests and reports the physical properties of concrete and masonry products (i.e. brick, block and pipe) by a series of tests designed to demonstrate compliance with the current project specifications and contract documents.

Maintains and updates the Quality Systems Manual (QSM) for the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Accreditation Program and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) documentation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the concepts, terminology, principles and analytical techniques of testing Portland Cement Concrete.
Knowledge of engineering design, construction, materials, production and/or operations.
Skilled in using engineering tools, equipment and/or instruments and computers including engineering software.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to obtain, analyze and interpret engineering data pertaining to concrete mix designs.
Ability to observe and solve problems relating to Portland Cement Concrete.
Ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with others.
Ability to work independently, complete assignments and meet established deadlines.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.

REQUIRED LICENSURE/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION: FDOT Concrete Laboratory Technician - Levels 1 and 2, and FDOT Concrete Field Technician – Level 1, within one year of appointment date.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent. Prior experience using engineering or manufacturing tools, equipment and/or instruments. Prior experience operating a personal computer for word processing, spreadsheet, and/or database applications.
