The Computer Systems Engineer with specialized knowledge in handling Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) and ensuring compliance with Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) Level 2 requirements. This role is critical in designing, implementing, and managing secure computing systems and processes that protect sensitive information and meet federal cybersecurity standards. The Computer Systems Engineer will be part of the Research Computing & Data (RCD) Infrastructure team and will work closely with (a) research faculty, to determine the appropriate solution for their workflow involving CUI; (b) university research administration, re: access and Technology Control Plans; (c) Clemson's cybersecurity office and (d) Clemson's IT Infrastructure team and (e) the RCD Engagement team re: user documentation and user support. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB DUTIES: 25% - Essential - Technical Leadership: Participate in regular security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities and non-compliance issues, implementing corrective actions to mitigate risks. Lead change management processes related to CUI systems, ensuring that updates to systems and practices are communicated and implemented effectively.


25% - Essential - System Architecture: Design and implement IT systems and architectures that are compliant with CMMC Level 2 requirements, focusing on the protection of Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI). Manage and secure Linux and Windows server environments, ensuring systems are hardened against vulnerabilities and are in compliance with NIST-171 and security best practices for handling CUI.


20% - Essential - Systems Administration: Manage administrative/systems work in CUI environment performed by members of Clemson CCIT Infrastructure Services and Operations w. specific expertise (eg: Windows AD, Citrix, etc) as needed.


20% - Essential - Policy Development: Serve as a subject matter expert on CUI and CMMC standards, providing guidance and training to IT staff and other stakeholders within the organization. Contribute to development and implementation of policies and procedures for the effective management of CUI, including access control, data encryption, and secure information sharing.


10% - Essential - Documentation: Contribute to documentation of all system configurations, changes, and compliance measures related to CUI and CMMC, maintaining thorough records for audit purposes. Stay abreast of changes in federal cybersecurity regulations and standards, adjusting internal policies and systems to maintain compliance.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: A bachelor's degree in related information technology or related field and experience in business administration, computer science, mathematics, engineering, management information science, networking-telecommunications, and/or data processing. Relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis. Work Experience: 5 years of experience in IT systems engineering, with a strong background in cybersecurity practices and compliance. Proficiency with Linux and Windows server administration, particularly in configuring and managing secure, compliant systems. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities. Effective communication skills, with the ability to explain complex compliance requirements to technical and non-technical stakeholders. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: Qualifications: Demonstrated knowledge of CUI handling requirements and CMMC Level 2 certification process. Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, risk management, and compliance audits. Certifications: CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+, CMMC Assessor RESPONSIBILITIES JOB KNOWLEDGE

COMPENSATION INFORMATION Expected Salary Range: ($ 81,388.00 - $ 120,000.00)

Salary is dependent upon several factors including, but not limited to, a candidate's previous experience, knowledge, skills and performance in accordance with Clemson's compensation guidelines.

ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL LEVEL Normal Operations


Required to follow emergency facility closure directives, and not normally expected work on-site during emergency situations.
