COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT SPECIALIST
(Grant Funded until 6/30/2025)
Salary:$45,198.00 SECTION I-JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director of Community Engagement or designee. The Community Engagement Specialist is responsible for the dissemination of information and news to the general public, Cameron County employees, and the media regarding Cameron County Public Health initiatives, programs and policy.
The Community Engagement Specialist will be responsible for demonstrating initiative in ensuring all community engagement projects are followed through within a respective time frame.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Employee will accurately document all time worked. Writes a variety of different content to support communications and marketing efforts, including newsletters, website copy, and brochures and press releases. Assists with the dissemination, execution and/or production of content. Performs media relations duties to include: media buying, news releases, and fielding questions from media. Performs public relations duties to include: public and school education, presentations, tours of public facilities, and requests for information from the general public. Assists in the planning and development of advertising/promotional campaigns/strategies. Provides event coordination services i.e., arrange facilities, contact media, invite all appropriate groups and individuals, etc. Assists in the production of digital content, public service announcements and videos for promotional use across all CCPH social media platforms. Creates and maintains databases i.e., marketing and social media data, mailing lists, association & organization lists, etc. Performs outreach to press outlets, magazines, influencers and builds strategic partnerships. Takes the lead on all assignments given to the Health Educators to include producing internal/external campaigns, attending public health events/fairs, meeting with program directors, etc. Other duties as assigned. SECTION II-JOB REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English or related field and a minimum two years of experience and knowledge in communications and media including experience in community relations, marketing strategies and social media . Related work experience may be substituted for education. Every two years of experience directly related to the duties of the job can substitute for every one year of required education.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Must possess exceptional public speaking and writing abilities. Knowledge of marketing strategies including social media and appreciation of community diversity. Strong ability to communicate orally and in writing to various socio-economic and multi-cultural groups. Ability to coordinate and support work related activities for various programs and special projects. Quick sound decision making. Must be bilingual with the ability to speak, translate, read and write English and Spanish. Excellent interpersonal skills. Knowledge of computer programs software (MS, Word, Excel, Power Point, internet).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have a valid Texas Driver's License, comply with State of Texas Driving Laws, and maintain an acceptable driving record. Must have reliable transportation. Employees of Cameron County may be required to work during any natural disaster or emergency, extended hours and non-traditional work schedules (i.e., Saturdays and Sundays). Criminal background check is required for employment or continued employment.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Good health and physical condition sufficient to permit full performance of the duties of the position. If additional assistance is required, employee must request assistance prior to performing the assignment.
SECTION III-JOB DIMENSIONS CONTACTS: EXTERNAL CONTACTS: Occasional contact with other health, social and educational care agencies and outside organizations. Frequent contact with Cameron County departments, Public Health and State Department of State Health Services staff. Communication is via telephone, written communication and face to face.
INTERNAL CONTACTS: Utilizes tact when dealing with County employees, health, social and educational care providers, and clientele regarding operations issues. Constant contact with Human Resources Office. Communicating is primarily face-to-face, via telephone and through written communication.
RESPONSIBILITY: Comply with Cameron County and Department of State Health Services rules/regulations and display a positive public image. As a Cameron County employee, the identity of every client shall be kept confidential except to the extent necessary to carry out the purpose of an investigation, hearing, or judicial proceeding.
DIFFICULTY: Judgment is required to ensure completion of job activities as assigned by the immediate supervisor or designee. Uses discretion to achieve work goals. Initiative is constantly required to achieve work goals.
GUIDANCE: As assigned by immediate supervisor or designee. It is the responsibility of the employee to know and maintain contact with their immediate supervisor or designee.
WORKING CONDITION: Working conditions are primarily in a clinic, office, community center or field setting.
