Towson University is hiring a Communications Supervisor for our Communications Operations Center to be responsible for the day-today operations, activities, and personnel to ensure compliance of established guidelines, procedures, and policies, while ensuring appropriate staffing levels are maintained. This role is crucial for the effective supervision and administration to include staff development and training, performance management, employee relations, prioritizing and assigning work and related activities, and approving and monitoring leave requests. The Communications Supervisor will ensure the operational readiness of equipment related to the agency radios and the computer aided dispatch system while assisting with complex calls for service when needed. Responsibilities and Duties Performs supervisory duties such as assigning communications operator responsibilities and establishing work priorities. Instructs, directs, and guides personnel; schedules personnel; manages the daily operations; assigns and reviews work; monitors and evaluates performance of subordinate personnel. Monitor and train sworn officers for Meters and National Criminal Information (NCIC) certification at the CN2 level. Prepare, maintain, and review operational and administrative reporting related to Meters and the National Criminal Information Center (NCIC); FBI Information Security Audits; Validations; LPR; Warrant database; Criminal History Records Information (CHRI); and related reporting for Clery Act and the Commission of Accredited Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA). Serves as administrator of agency computer equipment and software, develops associated policies and procedures for Communications personnel as they apply to Computer Aided Dispatch, Computerized Records Management Systems, telecommunications systems, surveillance cameras and recording technologies. Utilizes and monitors the Motorola 800 MHZ radio system; Lenel Access system; Informa Cast system; Whelen system and Fireline system. Develops policies, procedures and instructional material related to the Communications function; develops and automates reference and resource materials. Communicates with internal and external stakeholders regarding communications systems and assists or supervises incoming emergency calls when needed. Monitor transmissions of the Baltimore County Police Department to relay information to the operations of the University Police Department. Qualifications and Skills High School Diploma, or equivalent, and 4 years of work experience required. Current possession of CN1 NCIC/State of Maryland Meter Certification or previously certified within the last three years and eligible for certification. Experience with Word, Excel spreadsheets and related software with reasonable speed and accuracy. Knowledge of leadership techniques, principles, and procedures to assign work, schedule, supervise, train, and evaluate the work of the assigned staff. Knowledge of the 800 MJZ Motorola system, Fireline and Lenel Access systems, Informa cast system and Whelan system. Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience. Salary and Benefits $46,407 annually and full University benefits that include 22 days of annual leave, up to 15 holidays, personal and sick days; excellent health, life, and retirement plans; and tuition remission.
