College of Education: Department of Curriculum & Instruction Specialized Faculty - Clinical Instructor
The Department of Curriculum & Instruction , in the College of Education, at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, seeks Clinical Instructors for the Early Childhood Professional Education (ECPE) program to serve as field supervisors for teacher candidates. These part-time positions will be between zero to 80% of the time, depending on the load. The need for Clinical Instructors across the state of Illinois exists, particularly in larger cities and metropolitan areas, such as Chicago, St. Louis, and Springfield, while limited needs exist in smaller cities and rural areas. Clinical supervisors observe and support teacher candidates in their placements and offer support and guidance to the cooperating teachers through a series of visits to classrooms each semester. Supervisors serve as liaisons between student teachers, cooperating teachers, course instructors, and ECPE staff. Responsibilities of Clinical Instructors who work as field supervisors: Observe early childhood students in their field experiences in-person and/or by synchronous video throughout the semester. Each semester the clinical instructor will conduct 4-6 observations for each teacher candidate, as well as pre-observation and reflective post-observation conferences. Provide oral and written feedback to early childhood teacher candidates after each observation. Stimulate reflective thinking about early childhood teacher candidates' objectives, goals, strategies, and progress. Work collaboratively with cooperating teachers and ECPE staff to enact established remediation processes for teacher candidates who need assistance to successfully complete program expectations. Coordinate the evaluation of teacher candidates with cooperating teachers. Minimum Requirements: Master's degree or higher in education Teacher licensure: early childhood (birth to grade 2) preferred Minimum of three (3) years of classroom teaching; considerable experience in birth to grade 2 preferred. These positions will be filled each semester based on course enrollments and teaching needs for the department. These positions are hired between zero and 80% of the time and will not include benefits. Part-time clinical instructors are hired to serve as field supervisors for teacher candidates and are paid $140 per visit, an expectation of 4 - 6 visits per assignment.
