Job Description and Duties Are you passionate about working on the State Water Project, one of the greatest engineering marvels?  Come work for the Department of Water Resources and make a positive impact on how we operate and maintain one of the largest state-owned water systems.
Under the direction of the Senior Engineer, Water Resources, the incumbent performs a wide variety of engineering duties relating to State Water Project (SWP) facilities.  The main responsibility of this position is to review, coordinate, and manage third-party requests for encroachments, planned (future) developments, and unauthorized encroachments, that may impact the operations and maintenance of the SWP.  The main functions are to review and analyze engineered drawings and specifications, project descriptions, environmental documents, field observations by others, photo documentation, and other supporting documentation; draft formal comment letters for management review and approval; work with internal and external stakeholders; perform site visits and inspections; conduct/lead meetings; assist in developing process and procedures, and project management activities.

Special Requirements Must possess a valid California Driver's License, as travel throughout the State will be required. This position requires the incumbent to work cooperatively with others; maintain regular, consistent, predictable attendance; exercise good judgment; and apply knowledge and expertise in design, construction, and maintenance of major water project facilities, and in the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and various California Water Codes as they apply to the SWP. It is desirable for the incumbent to have knowledge or experience in Review, understand, and provide technical comments on engineered design plans and specifications and other supporting documentation for a variety of proposed encroachments within the DWR (State Water Project) right of way that may impact the operations and maintenance of SWP infrastructure; Independently track and review planned (future) developments and California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) documents for specific projects that may impact the operation and maintenance of the DWR (SWP) right of way and infrastructure; Work collaboratively with O&M Field Division staff and the DOE Real Estate Branch in addressing Unauthorized Encroachments within the DWR right of way; Assist in and support the development, documentation, and maintenance of processes, procedures, strategies, and standards for work products generated by and activities performed by the Right of Way Management and O&M Field Division staff; Perform annual Right of Way inspections, prepare inspection reports with findings, conclusions, and recommendations to document existing site conditions impacting the operations and maintenance of SWP facilities.
