Friendly House, Inc., is a 501(c) 3 non-profit agency located in Phoenix, Arizona whose primary function is to provide a variety of educational and social service programming aimed at addressing the needs of low-income individuals and families, vulnerable populations and diverse communities. Additionally, Friendly House operates a charter school, Academia del Pueblo, with the mission to provide an academic environment which promotes a culture of high expectations to students from diverse cultures. Friendly House was organized in 1920 as the Phoenix Americanization Committee by a group of Phoenix citizens with the assistance of the United States Department of Education. In our 100-year history, the work of Friendly House has resulted in building resilient communities that are helping to spur economic development, stabilize neighborhoods and revitalize our city.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Chief Financial Officer has oversight over the Accounting Department and is responsible for managing the financial actions of the organization. This position is charged tracking cash flow, proposing financial planning strategies based on forecasts, analyzing the financial strengths and weaknesses, and overseeing all aspects of the organization's financial success.

You possess experience in strategic financial development with a growing nonprofit organization.
Job Qualifications:
Bachelor's or higher degree in Finance and Economics
8 to 10 years of experience in the non-profit industry in a senior financial/accounting role.
Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational, and written skills.
Knowledge of current financial and accounting computer applications
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with colleagues, shareholders, and other stakeholders.
Experience in managing/supervising employees.
Ability to strategize, problem solve and make sound business decisions.
Experience in developing budgets and financial plans.
Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams.
Knowledge of GAAP, Non-Profit Accounting Standards, and Grant Management and Compliance requirements.
Experience managing all aspects of an organization's financial operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Great Plains or similar accounting and reporting systems.
Responsibilities:
Provide CEO with high-level reporting, expertise and guidance on various finance and economic topics.
Support CEO at the Board of Director meetings on budget and other finance issues.
Attend Finance Committee meetings, present financial statements, organization's budget, and other financial information.
Attend Audit Committee meetings and answer any audit-related questions.
Assists the CEO in supporting the Board of Director's Treasurer on budget and other finance issues as requested.
Prepare organization's financial statements, financial statement notes, cash flow analysis and organization's budget.
Provide CEO, directors, and managers with timely and accurate monthly revenue and expense reports with each grant showing period-to-date actual vs. budget amounts.
Oversees the preparation of budgets for grant proposals and other requests for funding pursuant to the requirements of the funding entity; monitors grant budgets to ensure that expenditure of funds is consistent with the budget and works with departments on any material discrepancy; oversees the preparation of necessary fiscal reports for funding entities.
Assist with budget development, budget to actual variance analysis, monitor spending in compliance with grant budgets and other grant restrictions.
Reviews bi-weekly payroll.
Works closely with department leaders to create and revise program budgets based on program performance.
Maintain and implement internal policies, procedures, and controls in compliance with grants and GAAP.
Work on accounting special projects, as needed.
CFO will maintain accounting system and authorize changes to accounts structure with input from the Controller.
Review and monitor bank accounts, investment accounts and cash resources.
Prepare annual cost allocation plan.
Manage annual audit; reconciles discrepancies, prepares reports, and resolves procedural problems; perform periodic audits of internal accounting.
CFO and Controller will work with insurance brokers to determine liability insurance needs, monitor policies.
Support program staff in the areas of budgets, contracts, invoicing and vouchers, and program financial reporting.
Ensures that spending and management of federal, state, and private funds is consistent with the regulatory and other requirements of the funding entity and with all organizational policies and procedures.
Update Accounting Manual as necessary and implement changes to improve organization's system of internal fiscal controls.
Takes active role in collaborating with and educating organization's staff on accounting issues.
Recommends control improvements by researching and interpreting accounting policies and legal regulations.
Monitors systems to assure compliance with fiscal internal requirements and federal regulations.
Participates in a variety of fiscal, operations, and management meetings.
Maintains required job knowledge, skills, and abilities by attending continued professional education seminars and classes.
Complies with the regulations and professional ethics of the AICPA and state accounting society.
Performs other duties as assigned by the CEO
