Visit Globe-Miami.com) to learn more.DescriptionServe as a bench leader, providing technical expertise, guidance and advice while conducting research, analyses, synthesis and evaluation of raw materials, process samples and final products related to modern day domestic and international mining operations. Perform quantitative analysis techniques by using various analytical instrumentation as well as classical wet chemical and gravimetric techniques and assures optimization and improvement of analytical methodologies to develop processes for new product development and quality assurance.Serve as technical advisor on laboratory issues and analysesDevelop formulations, standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products and tests in support of research and development, material characterization, metallurgical process enhancements and final product quality assuranceContribute to new research and analytical method development; matching testing procedures or mining processes to ore body and developing appropriate techniques/SOPs and safety protocolsPerform training, oversight, mentorship and may serve as supervisor of techniciansPrepare timely and accurate reports and deliver presentations on processes and projects to Chemists, Engineers, Metallurgists, and managementResearch quality control/quality analysis issues and make recommendations to Sr. Chemist/Chief Chemist for evaluation/correctionEvaluate and administer contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipmentMaintain current working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local regulationsPerform other duties as requiredQualificationsMinimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Chemistry or very closely related field with a strong emphasis in Chemistry (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Biology)andtwo (2) years of experience as a Chemist in a research/analytical lab environmentKnowledge of the principles and methods used in complex chemical, laboratory and quality assurance analysesCurrent knowledge of laboratory instrumentationFamiliarity with modern analytical chemistry instrumentation methodsGood decision making skills regarding proper laboratory technique and comparative laboratory proceduresAbility to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusionsSkill in effective communication, both verbal and writtenMust have good application of computer programs and basic understanding of statistical data analysisAbility to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautionsSkill in following safety practices and recognizing hazardsPreferredInorganic analysis lab experience Criteria/ConditionsAbility to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in EnglishAbility to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standardsMust be able to work in a potentially stressful environmentWork is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see.Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects (up to 40 pounds) during the course of the workday.Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required.Freeport-McMoRan promotes a drug/alcohol free work environment through the use of mandatory pre-employment drug testing and on-going random drug testing.What We Offer YouThe estimated annual pay range for this role is currently$69,000-$94,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance.
