POSITION OVERVIEWResponsible for generating all routine assay data at the Silver Bell laboratory in support of exploration, mining, leaching, SXEW process and cathode production.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS• Be able to effectively multitask in a high-workload, fast-paced lab environment.• Plan and control daily analytical work to effectively utilize resources without direction.• Report results from daily, monthly, and special analyses in a timely and accurate manner. Maintain an organized and accurate record of analyses.• Effectively and efficiently manage and report data.• Provide analytical and technical support to all departments of the operation.• Understand and apply broad statistical process control to all analytical data generated.• Identify parts, material, supplies, and equipment required to ensure continuous operation.• Maintain calibration of lab equipment to mine standards.• Troubleshoot analytical systems and equipment/instrumentation, including (DC-ARC, ICP-OES, LECO & AUTO TITRATORS) to minimize loss of productivity in the laboratory.• Interface with samplers to ensure prompt and accurate sample preparation.• Work in partnership as required with the SXEW Operations Department, the Mine, the Laboratory, and all other Silver Bell Departments to optimize safety, environmental compliance, production, costs, and quality in the laboratory.• Follow Department and Company policies and procedures.• Research ways to improve and keep current with industry standards, and lab procedures.• Participate in the continuous improvement of practices and procedures.• Exhibit 100% dedication to safe work practices 100% of the time in the laboratory.• Help ensure environmental compliance in the Laboratory.• Other duties as assigned.Responsible for executing, supporting, and enforcing the Company's Environmental, Health and Safety program as required by OIS policy, directives, and principles. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES• Must have technical knowledge of mining, leaching, solvent extraction and electrowinning processes.• Must be proficient in routine laboratory techniques and common laboratory equipment used for blast hole analysis, and aqueous SXEW sample analyses.• Experience assaying cathode copper is highly desirable.• Must have experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting (ICP-OES) instrumentation.• Preferable to have experience using LECO sulfur analyzer & DC-ARC Lead analyzer experience.• Must be familiar with common sample preparation techniques used in support of mining operations.• Must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills with employees, other supervisors, and managers.• Must have excellent computer skills.• Must be able to stand, sit and walk over rough terrain, work outdoors in all types of weather conditions, bend, climb ladders/stairs and lift to 50 pounds occasionally.• Must have a valid driver's license and a reliable transportation.REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE• Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field• One (1) year of experience working in a production laboratory environment.ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH & SAFETY• The job requires training or instruction in the area of environmental Awareness.• This job requires training or instruction in the area of Safety & Health awareness including completion of the appropriate OSHA and/or MSHA training.A core value of ASARCO LLC is "Safety First."
