SUMMARY: We are seeking a Chemist I with specialized knowledge and expertise in Ortho-phthalates, commonly referred to as "phthalates." These chemical compounds are utilized in plastic products, particularly in polyvinyl chloride (PVC or vinyl), to enhance flexibility and reduce brittleness. Despite their historical use as plasticizers, they have faced regulatory scrutiny and have been removed from certain applications, including food additives.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Assist with reviewing the received comments and information and assigning them to pre-determined categories that will help prioritize review of the responsive information. The individual shall provide services in support of Ortho -Phthalates Request for Information Comment Review. Comments/information received as part of this Request for Information should be sorted in appropriate pre-determined categories and provided. The individual shall provide all written reports in electronic format with read/write capability using applications that are compatible and provided with the furnished property (Microsoft Office applications). Stay updated with current regulations and restrictions pertaining to the use of phthalates in various industries. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to review and categorize a significant volume of comments, ensuring accurate classification. NECESSARY SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE: The ability to apply scientific knowledge and understanding when reviewing comments on the use of Ortho -phthalates, placing the comments in pre-determined categories. The ability to provide scientific reports on data reviewed within the deadlines given. Possess excellent oral and written communications in English. Ability to meet all time frames provided to meet the requirements. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in chemistry or related field Strong understanding of Ortho-phthalates' chemical properties, applications, and associated risks. Familiarity with regulatory guidelines surrounding phthalates' usage in consumer goods. Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to meticulously review and categorize a large volume of comments. The salary range for this position is $55,000.00- $75,000.00 annually.
