Position Summary: Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Medical Services Assistant for the Otolaryngology Clinic at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.
The Medical Services Assistant performs administrative and clinical tasks as assigned to support effective and efficient office operations.
Among the key duties of this position are the following: Advises patients regarding preparation of necessary forms; counsels patients regarding paperwork requirements. Obtains pre-certification and /or prior authorization from insurance companies for patient management as assigned. Monitors patient flow, and communicates with any issues or problems that arise with the clinical staff; seeks assistance from clinical staff when communication back to the waiting room is needed. Explains procedures and treatments to patient to gain cooperation, understanding and allay apprehension. Documents all patient correspondence and correspondence with other pertinent health care providers. Observes patient, records significant conditions and reactions, and notifies supervisor or Physician of patient's condition and reactions to drugs, treatment and significant incidents.
