Summary The incumbent will be assigned to the Building Maintenance Shop in the hospital Maintenance and Operations Section. The Maintenance Crew's primary purpose will be to complete maintenance and construction projects located throughout the hospital campus. Responsibilities Duties include but are not limited to: Measures, cuts, constructs or repairs wood or wood substitute items such as scaffolding, staging, parts, panels, bin pallets, concrete forms, dry wall and roof decking. Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs and modifies wood, composite and wood substitute materials by performing work to close tolerances, exact fit and structural soundness, Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs and modifies building components such as rafters, walls, staircases, windows and frames, trim work and furniture/cabinets. Plans and completes projects to involve constructing, altering, repairing and/or modifying framework, rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, rough furniture, interior/exterior trim, staircases, trusses and beams. Measures, cuts, constructs, installs, repairs and modifies routine mill work, framing, benches, partitions, tables, furniture, etc. Performs work to close tolerances, exact fit and structural soundness. Operates and uses a wide variety of specialty woodworking machines and tools. Operates and uses carpentry tools by setting-up, adjusting and maintaining tools to meet required specifications. Plans, measures and lays out carpentry materials using broad knowledge of wood materials and substitutes, with general and precision woodworking techniques. Projects involving constructing, altering, repairing and/or modifying framework, rafters, doors, finished paneling, windows, rough furniture, interior/exterior trim, staircases, trusses and beams. Plans, measures and lays out carpentry materials using advanced shop mathematics for complex and exact projects. Plans, measures and lays out carpentry materials by interpreting complex or incomplete instructions, sketches, blueprints and building codes. Shall assemble or disassemble the various modular furniture systems the PVAHCS has. Shall operate a forklift and other rolling stock, after receiving training, as required to execute construction projects. Education Additional Information Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
