Job Summary: The College of Engineering undergraduate academic affairs unit is a dynamic team committed to providing outstanding, equitable and inclusive student services to the college's 4,500 undergraduate and 1500 graduate students. Embracing a holistic approach, the unit includes academic advising, career services, student leadership, student outreach, scholarships and student wellness.


Engineering Career Services is a small, experienced and dedicated team focused on serving all students in the College and our alumni. While this role requires being a generalist on the team, the focus of the Career Services Advisor is on providing career advising and programming for undergraduate engineering students and management of experiential learning programs including the summer internship for credit program.
Responsibilities: Coordinates and delivers career development programming, resource materials, and/or advising to students and alumni. Educates students, alumni, and other stakeholders about career development and opportunities and maintains relationships to aid in effective career planning. Supervises unit staff and/or has significant program management authority/responsibility, and strives to create a welcoming, equitable, and inclusive work environment. 40% Educates or advises students and recent alumni individually, or in groups through various mediums about career exploration, self-assessment, skills, materials development, and career decisions 20% Develops and delivers career development programming and resource materials across various mediums to provide education to students 5% Responds to questions and provides information regarding student services, policies, procedures, and employment preparation 5% May identify and maintain a professional network of employers or other stakeholders to facilitate career exploration and employment opportunities for students 5% Participates in campus-wide career services community providing input to leadership regarding the development of advising, recruitment, and co/curricular programs offered by the school/college/unit 10% Supervises unit staff and/or plans, organizes, allocates resources, assesses performance, and leads the operational activities for a significant portion of the unit's career services portfolio 5% Ensures inclusion, diversity and equity is central in all activities and initiatives; engages in
practices that build inclusive teams and promotes environments that are welcoming and inclusive 10% Manages undergraduate summer internship for academic credit program and collaborate to support the cooperative education program Tasks: Meet one-on-one to advise undergraduate engineering students on a variety of career development needs including but not limited to: internship, co-op and job search strategies, resumes, cover letters, interviewing techniques and offer negotiation Develop and lead workshops on career development topics for undergraduates Monitor and manage summer internship for academic credit program participation including processing of reported internships in Handshake, orientation session attendance and enrollment process Institutional Statement on Diversity: Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison. Education: Required
Bachelor's Degree (Master's degree, preferred), in counseling, higher education or closely related field
Qualifications: Required:

Minimum 3 years of post-degree experience directly advising/counseling students in a higher education setting (does not include teaching positions); 5 years of experience preferred Experience developing, presenting or facilitating workshops and programs for college student audiences Experience collaborating across a diverse set of stakeholders to achieve a common goal Experience independently managing small to medium sized projects, programs, and/or events Demonstrated knowledge and use of technology platforms and/or data analysis to support work productivity Preferred:

Experience working in a career services unit and/or with Engineering students Experience working with international populations and basic knowledge of Curricular Practical Training (CPT) processes and regulations Experience with internship program management including understanding of NACE Internship Guidelines Experience working with Handshake and Microsoft Excel Work Type: Full Time: 100%


It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
Appointment Type, Duration: Ongoing/Renewable
Salary: Minimum $60,000 Maximum $85,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

Additional Information: Position will require occasional evening hours or weekend hours during the academic year.
Remote work may be available up to one day after a training period has been completed.
