Responsibilities
• Operate Category 2 equipment such as dump trucks, backhoes, and loaders• Perform highway maintenance tasks including paving, shoulder grading, and mowing• Complete dig outs, pavement patching, and repair or replacement of signs and markers• Clean culverts, perform traffic control, and assist with lane closures• Dispose of animal carcasses, maintain roadside rest areas, and other assigned duties• Clean, make minor repairs, and service equipment• Keep records of time reporting, equipment pre-op/post-op, and material use• Travel out of town for training, meetings, and other job-related duties• Operate Class A equipment during emergencies or unexpected workload increases• Follow all applicable safety regulations and guidelines
Requirements
• Possess a valid California Driver's License (CDL)• Pass a drug screening• Possess an unrestricted Class B driver's license with N endorsement• Possess a valid and unrestricted Class C driver's license• Possess one year of experience as a Caltrans Highway Maintenance Worker or Landscape Maintenance Worker, or• Possess two years of experience as a Service Assistant (Maintenance) with training in highway maintenance or construction equipment, or• Possess one year of recent experience operating highway construction or maintenance equipment or operating light trucks requiring a Class B commercial driver's license, or• Possess certification as a Heavy Equipment Operator Technician from an accredited college or university• Minimum qualifications will be verified prior to interview and/or appointment
