Job Description
Job Title: Burn Table Operator - 2nd Shift
Schedule: Monday to Thursday, from 2:00 pm to 12:30 am
Reports To: Fabrication Supervisor
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Summary:
The Burn Table Operator operates the machine to cut or perform other machining operations on steel in the manufacturer of parts for heavy machinery. The Operator determines operation sequences and selects and adjusts machines to perform proper cutting/burning of the plate. The Operator trains and inspects the work of other shop personnel in the correct operation of CNC burn table processes.
Requirements
Essential Responsibilities/Duties:
Design/Select cutting tools as needed
Tests program to ensure machining operation(s) comply with print and specifications
Ensures that proper CNC program details are set up for the operator to run the assigned work order
Must be able to identify and maintain the quality of the work being performed
Maintains work area
Overtime may be required as necessary.
Responsible for following established safety practices
Responsible to cross train in other departments
All other duties as assigned
Aptitudes and Abilities:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, production schedules, work instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and information furnished in written oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Mechanical aptitude
Must have strong attention to detail
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as area, circumference, and volume, must be able to use the Imperial system as well as the Metric System.
Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, trigonometry, and geometry.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
Ability to communicate and work well with others throughout the organization
Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in unique situations
Physical requirements of the job will include lifting, standing, bending, pushing, pulling, etc.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
This position requires long periods of standing.
Requires frequent kneeling and bending and considerable use of hands and tools.
Education/ Training:
High School degree or equivalent
Experience:
Minimum 2 years experience as a CNC machine operator with burn table experience or other related CNC machine operation in heavy industry or similar demonstrated numerically controlled machine operation abilities
Skills:
Requires basic mechanical understanding
Basic understanding of steel grades and steel descriptions
Basic computer skills preferred
Strong time-management skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast-paced
environment.
Understanding of manufacturing tools and their proper use
Must have the willingness to follow directions as well as the ability to work independently
Positive attitude and the ability to work well with others
Must take pride in work, a job well done, and maintain an organized workspace
Other:
Must provide basic tools as needed
The use of safety equipment such as safety glasses, steel-toe shoes, gloves, helmets, and hearing protection is utilized daily.
