Responsibilities The Budget Analyst will perform specialized budgetary and accounting services and activities. This includes preparing highly specialized budgetary and systematic reports and long range budget planning for the NHMFL. Assist in allocating an annual total budget of over $60 Million in State and Federal funding to various departments. Analyze, reconcile and monitor NHMFL budgets reports and approve budget transfers and related budget requests. Responsible for developing specialized excel spreadsheets for departmental use. Provide support with audit requirements by monitoring, researching, and coordinating responses. Compile financial reports with reliable conclusions that management can use to implement effective operational strategies. Assist with the preparation of monthly financial reports that provide past, current and projected financial status.Assist in the preparation of Sponsored Research Award documents (new awards, supplemental funding, budget amendments and other funding documents) on assigned awards and budgets. Ensure compliance with GAAP and other governmental or funding agency's laws and regulations by analyzing, verifying, and performing complex financial reconciliations. Assist in the compilation, organization, and submission of the NHMFL's NSF renewal proposal that occurs every five years. Responsible for review of RAMP proposals for approval and training of back-up personnel to insure timely submissions.Make recommendations to continuously improve budgeting systems' efficiency and reliability by recommending, interpreting, and implementing fiscal and accounting administrative policies and procedures. Create and maintain precise desktop procedures for the department that ensure the financial integrity of the Budget Management System. Assist in the development of training programs and training documents for the Budget Management Department and the NHMFL administrative staff. Work with the IT Department to ensure the financial integrity of the Budget Management System, as well as, monitor and implement system improvements. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related area and one year of experience related to the duties of the job; or a high school diploma or equivalent and five years in the same. (Note: Post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.)
Experience preparing and monitoring budget information. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Experience with the concepts, principles, and practices of accounting, budgeting, and cost control procedures. Experience prioritizing and organizing work assignments. Experience compiling, reviewing, and reconciling data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance. Computer skills to include experience with Microsoft Word and Excel or comparable software. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of OMNI Financials, BI Reporting, and RAMP. Knowledge of University policies, procedures, principles and practices. Knowledge of SharePoint. Other Information The National High Magnetic Field Laboratory (NHMFL) MagLab is the world's premier magnet laboratory with state-of-the-art high magnetic field facilities and has a history in development and application of ultra-high field NMR and MRI/S magnets and instrumentation. The NHMFL is an NSF-funded user facility that operates the world's most powerful electromagnets at Florida State University, the University of Florida and Los Alamos National Lab, including 45 T DC and 35.2 T (1.5 GHz) NMR magnets, and DNP spectrometers currently operating up to 14.1 T / 600 MHz / 395 GHz. Present projects include development of a 40 T all-superconducting magnet. Our long-term plan includes development of 30 T NMR magnets, neutron scattering magnets, and resistive-superconducting hybrid magnets up to 60 T.
