JOB SUMMARY
Prepare part surfaces by cleaning, sanding, and masking, ensuring they are smooth and ready for painting. Apply even and consistent paint coats to aviation parts.
GENERAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS
•High school diploma or GED
• 3-5 years bodywork/wet painting experience
Reliable/excellent attendance record
•Negative drug screen
•Able to work cooperatively with co-workers
•Adherence to personal protection requirements (safety glasses, etc.)
•Adherence to company general policies and quality procedures.
•Receive and follow work instructions from Lead Person or Supervisor
SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS
Following are some of the principal job functions. However, other duties and activities may be required in performance of this job:
•Clean, and apply chemical solution to prepare and condition surfaces prior to painting.
•Mix and thin paint or other coating to specified color and consistency according to standard formulas or color charts, using spatula or mixing equipment.
•Mask and cover surfaces not to be painted.
•Perform cosmetic repairs by filling depressions with body filler and ensure a quality surface prior to final topcoat.
•File, grind and sand surfaces, using power tools and hand tools
•Strip, sand and repair surfaces and blends and polishes finish to match surrounding areas, manually or using portable power tools on rework parts.
•Apply specified amount primer, protective, decorative or finish coatings, such as paint, lacquer, sealer, or enamel, onto prepared surfaces, using spray equipment.
•May apply or retouch paint using brush.
•May regulate controls on equipment to cure and dry paint or other coatings.
•Must be able to work with various grades of thinners.
•Able to develop appropriate and efficient methods for each job.
•Work with cross functional teams to identify and implement changes and improvements.
PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS
•Lifting up to 50# with no restrictions
•Healthy wrist-arm motion – will be using hand tools
•Ability to work with acetones, thinners, epoxies, solders and sealants and other manufacturing materials without allergic reactions
•Good hand/eye coordination
•Must be observant and meticulous.
•Ability to read process sheets and follow directions
•Approved by an MD for general respirator use; respirator must be worn during spraying.
•Prolong periods of standing and painting.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This job operates in a manufacturing environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions. The noise level in the work environment can be loud.
