Job Title:Biostatistics ConsultantDepartment:Medicine | School Biomed Sci - Biomedical Informatics Functions as a Full time Biostatistician supporting biomedical research projects in the department of Anesthesiology, as a member of the Center for Biostatistics; provides statistical leadership, direction and advanced consultation for the design, analysis and reporting of complex research data; designs and evaluates the technical and statistical infrastructure for the conduct and evaluation of research studies, including the coordination of all related areas and activities; collaborates with researchers to understand objectives of research study; identifies and conceptualizes best methods and techniques in design of complex analysis in support of project activities; writes and reviews statistical analysis plans for inclusion in research proposals; provides expert advisement on database design and use of data capture tools to ensure collection of high quality data; calculates and determines appropriate and valid sample size to ensure high power studies; develops and writes new statistical code using existing software; constructs and writes new or unique advanced statistical code for which no packaged software exists; prepares and writes statistical methods and procedures and assists in submission of manuscripts, articles, technical reports and NIH or other grant proposals; participates in presentation and dissemination of complex data results, data analysis techniques and approaches and other research findings; study design and analysis; participates in performance management activities; supervises students and trainees; serves on center, college and university committees.
MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a Master's degree in Biostatistics, Statistics, Mathematics, or other highly quantitative field.
6 years of relevant experience required. 8-12 years of relevant experience preferred.
Experience in a statistical field required and previous experience in clinical research or a healthcare-related field is preferred; extensive experience managing large databases, utilizing statistical software packages, preparing grant applications on Basic, Translational or Clinical research (i.e. R01, DOD, PCORI, Foundation grants), writing research papers, and consulting in a collaborative research environment preferred.
Some experience working with large databases such as Market scan, Pearl Diver, NSQIP, NIS, CMS, N3C-covid or others is preferred.
Experience with bioinformatic analyses for genomic data (RNAseq, nRNAseq, etc.) is desirable.
Requires excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain statistical techniques and present data results.
Employees are expected to be able to work and manage projects independently, seek collaborations from other statisticians as needed and make decisions in conjunction with Principal Investigators, other key personnel, research scientists, and Anesthesiology faculty.
Exceptional interpersonal, presentation and communication skills are required to interact effectively with all internal research staff and collaborators.
Strong organizational skills, self-management skills, and attention to detail.
Software skills to prepare presentations, and announcements and make tables and figures.
Previous experience with data management, data entry and data analysis. Previous experience with scientific manuscript writing. Excellent knowledge of General Linear Mixed Models (GLMM), factor analysis, structural equation modeling and cluster analysis. Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, and at least one statistical software package (e.g., SAS, SPSS, STATA).
