Automotive Technician - SummaryFunctions as an experienced technician who can diagnose and repair most vehicle components with little supervision, and has previously worked as a B or C-Class general service technician.Automotive Technician - Essential DutiesPerforms work as outlined on repair order with efficiency and accuracy, by the dealership and factory standards.Diagnoses the cause of most malfunctions and performs repair.Communicates with the parts department to obtain needed parts.Saves and tags parts of the job if under warranty or if requested by the customer.Examines assigned vehicle to determine if further safety or service work is required or recommended.Communicates with the service advisor immediately if additional work is needed, if the work outlined is not needed, or if repairs cannot be completed within the promised time.Documents all work performed and recommended on the repair order.Road tests vehicles when required or refers to the test technician.Participates in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.Keeps abreast of manufacturer technical bulletins.Supervises the work of any apprentice technicians as assigned.Reports machinery defects or malfunctions to the supervisor.Ensures that customers' cars are kept clean. Notifies the service advisor immediately of anything that has happened to change the appearance or condition of the vehicle.Keeps shop area neat and clean.Maintains and is accountable for all dealership-owned tools and manuals. Returns them to the proper place and in the same condition as they were received.Understands, keeps abreast of, and complies with federal, state, and local regulations such as hazardous waste disposal, OSHA Right-to-Know, etc.Operates all tools and equipment safely.Reports any safety issues immediately to management.Other tasks as assigned.Automotive Technician – QualificationsAutomotive and engine repair experience or auto mechanic training preferred.Hold a valid driver's license.Graduated from an associate degree program in auto maintenance and repair.Ability to maintain a professional appearance and provide friendly customer service.Must read, interpret, and transcribe data to maintain accurate records.Perform routine maintenance and other tasks in a fast-paced environment.May lift objects that weigh as much as 50 lbs.High school diploma or equivalent required.Experience as a lube technician or prepared to do on-the-job training.Understanding of automotive air-conditioning systems.Ability to use diagnostic equipment.Experience with heavy equipment and as a diesel mechanic, diesel engine knowledge, or prepared to do on-the-job training.Good hand-eye coordination.Automotive Technician - Education and/or ExperienceTwo to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Automotive Technician - Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsAutomotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certifications preferredJeff Wyler is committed to hiring a diverse and qualified workforce.
