Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit The UNC School of Medicine has a rich tradition of excellence and care with a mission to improve the health and wellbeing of North Carolinians, and others whom we serve. The UNC TEACCH Autism Program is housed within the School of Medicine. Started in the late 1960s, the UNC TEACCH Autism Program's mission is to create and disseminate community-based services, training programs and research to enhance the quality of life for autistic individuals and their families across the lifespan. UNC TEACCH currently operates 7 outpatient clinics across North Carolina, a residential program, and an employment program. In addition, UNC TEACCH has a robust community-based research program and internationally acclaimed training program. We are committed to providing leadership and excellence in the interrelated areas of patient care, education, and research. We provide opportunities for collaboration among disciplines across and beyond the University as well as collaboration with community stakeholders to support meaningful and outstanding research that directly impacts autistic individuals and their families.
Position Summary The University of North Carolina TEACCH Autism Program has positions for master's level Autism Specialists within multiple TEACCH regional centers across the state of North Carolina. The selected candidate will hold a faculty position as Clinical Instructor (fixed-term faculty) in the Department of Psychiatry, UNC School of Medicine. Positions are potentially available at any of our locations across North Carolina: Asheville, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Greensboro, Greenville, Raleigh, and Wilmington. Master's level clinicians in social work, counseling, speech language pathology, and occupational therapy are encouraged to apply. 
Autism Specialists/ Clinical Instructors at TEACCH engage in a combination of clinical, teaching, and scholarly activities. Clinical opportunities include maintaining a clinical caseload of autistic clients across the lifespan consistent with faculty expertise. Teaching opportunities include supervising trainees, providing consultation, and training of other professionals locally, nationally, and internationally. TEACCH clinical instructors engage in a variety of scholarly activities including providing clinical services as part of ongoing clinical trials, collaborating on manuscripts, and providing conference presentations depending on faculty interests. Typically, clinical instructors spend 75% time in clinical activities, 15% time in teaching activities, and 10% time in scholarly activities although this varies depending on the successful candidate's expertise and career interests.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Requires completion of a master's degree in social work, counseling, or related discipline.
NOTE : Only candidates licensed or license eligible as a LCSW , LPC , LMFT , LPA , SLP or OT in the state of North Carolina will be considered for these positions. Candidates must be licensed and credentialed within 30 days of hire.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience Previous clinical training and experience in assessment and treatment of Autistic individuals preferred. Experience treating mental health comorbidities in ASD is highly desirable. Individuals with BCBA certification in addition to licensure as described above is highly desirable.
