Benesch is proud to announce the opening for an Attorney Performance Management Manager in our Cleveland office! This position is hybrid and has work from home flexibility.
Position Summary: Do you thrive on developing and implementing performance management strategies and initiatives? Do you enjoy writing and developing evaluations in order to help generate best practices for performance management to better the team? Then Benesch's new opportunity for an Attorney Performance Management Manager may be your calling. This role will play a crucial part in developing and implementing effective performance management strategies and process to support the professional development of our attorneys.
The Attorney Performance Management Manager assists in managing all attorney performance evaluation processes at the Firm, including the evaluation processes and ensuring robust formal and informal feedback loops. Additionally, this position will provide training and support to enhance the effectiveness of practice group leaders and lawyers in engaging with the performance evaluation process.
Essential Functions : 1. Manage the firm's annual and ongoing attorney performance evaluation processes.
2. Update and maintain evaluation forms to assess individual performance against established benchmarks and objectives.
3. Develop feedback loops and ensure constructive and actionable feedback is communicated to individual attorneys.
4. Evaluate the effectiveness of the annual attorney performance evaluation process and recommend improvements as appropriate.
5. Partner with practice group leaders and firm management to establish clear performance objectives and goals for associates at all levels.
6. Partner with Human Resources regarding performance improvement plans and other performance interventions.
7. Identify performance gaps and opportunities for improvement; work with practice group stakeholders and the Professional Development department to develop strategies and action plans to address them.
8. Leverage data analytics and performance metrics to track progress, measure outcomes, and drive continuous improvement in performance management practices.
9. Generate and provide reporting on performance metrics to relevant stakeholders, including practice group leaders, the Professional Development Committee, and others as requested.
10. Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous learning by promoting engagement with performance management processes and initiatives.
11. Collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure alignment between performance management and attorney training and development.
12. Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in performance management and talent development, and proactively incorporate new insights and innovations into Benesch's approach.
13. Provide training and development opportunities for practice group leaders on delivering effective feedback and other performance management techniques.
14. Review written evaluations for unconscious bias and provide guidance to ensure fair and equitable assessments of lawyer performance.
15. Supervise the assessment of written reviews for alignment with performance management goals, core competencies, and practice group benchmarks.
Additional Responsibilities: 1. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Professional Development.

Qualifications : The Attorney Performance Management Manager must have a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. JD or advanced degree is preferred. Minimum 7+ year's experience in performance management or related fields, with at least 2 years within professional services or legal industry. Relevant certifications (e.g., PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) are a plus.
Proven track record of developing and implementing performance management strategies and initiatives that improve employee performance and engagement. Strong understanding of performance management principles, methodologies, and best practices. Familiarity with unconscious bias mitigation strategies and experience reviewing written evaluations for bias. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders. Strategic thinker with the ability to translate organizational goals into actionable performance objectives and initiatives. Proficiency in relevant software and technology platforms used for performance management. Prior experience with viDesktop suite of software strongly preferred.
