Position contingent upon availability of funding/ programming The Associate Principal is a collaborative and motivated individual who is a key administrative leader of the school and is directly responsible to the Principal, working under the School Committee policies and the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. The Associate Principal:

1.Collaborates and directly supports the Principal with personnel and students in the building, with the culture of the school, and the improvement of the instruction offered.


2.Is primarily an instructional leader in the school and is responsible under the Principal's leadership for promoting the learning and growth of all students and the success of all staff by cultivating a shared vision that makes powerful teaching and learning the central focus of schooling. This also includes promoting success for all students by nurturing and sustaining a school culture of reflective practice, high expectations, and continuous learning for staff.


3.Works with the school's staff and district administrators to achieve the goals contained in the district's strategic plan.


4.Assists the Principal and other administrators with the development, implementation, evaluation, and modification of curricular and instructional programs in the school.


5.Provides leadership for the implementation of the instructional model of the school.


6.Provides leadership for the school's development and implementation of instruction, course offerings, and other learning experiences that enable students to fulfill learning and attain other requirements, e.g. graduation, and coordinates the assessment of students' achievement of the requirements.


7.Coordinates the school's development and implementation of assessment plans and school improvement plans as required.


8.Works with appropriate personnel to determine implications of student learning assessment data for the purpose of improving the instructional program.


9.Works with appropriate personnel to coordinate all special instructional programs (i.e., Title I, ESL/Bilingual, Special Education).


10.Provides leadership for the incorporation of advances in instructional technology to expand the services and effectiveness of the instructional program.


11.In addition to being one of the primary instructional leaders in the school, the Associate Principal, in the absence of the Principal, is the primary building administrator with responsibilities that also include management and operations.


12.Is responsible for many services in the school and community and is held accountable for the school-based administrator standards under the direction of the Principal.


13.Represents the school with various stakeholders as designated by the Principal.


14.Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal.

QUALIFICATIONS: 1.Minimum of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in an appropriate field required.


2.Licensure as an Assistant Principal/Principal by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education at the high school level.


3.Comprehensive background and a minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated educational leadership and supervision experience in an urban educational setting.


4.Demonstrated success leading and directing strategic educational initiatives that result in measurable student outcomes and achievements.


5.Experience working with a diverse student body in an Urban school setting.


6.Broad knowledge of the recent and established legislation related to education.


7.Successful classroom teaching and curriculum development experience.


8.Demonstrates a sound philosophy of education, shows flexibility in approaches to school organization, and has a broad knowledge of the organization of school personnel.


9.Experience or educational background in professional development programs for a learning organization.


10.Strong knowledge of learning theories and the ability to apply them; successful experience in improving student achievement.


11.Strong knowledge of utilization of data in educational decision-making.


12.Demonstrates high integrity and an exceptional work ethic.
