Position Description The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington is seeking a full-time faculty member for an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (without tenure by reason of funding) on the Faculty Scientist track to join the Division of Endocrinology, and the Seattle Children's Research Institute (SCRI) Center for Child Health, Behavior, and Development. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in behavioral research related to diabetes, or other areas that will complement the activities of SCRI, the University of Washington, or both institutions. Teaching duties may include research-based mentorship with students, fellows, and junior faculty. Academic rank at the time of appointment is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Anticipated start date is May 1, 2024.
Associate and full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
General expectations: The successful applicant will be expected to continue their current research and grow a research program that can positively impact children with type 1 diabetes and their families health. Build an independent research career at Seattle Children's Research Institute and the University of Washington with a focus on child and family health. Mentor trainees and early career faculty in child health research. Participate in task forces and committees as requested by the applicable service line or Seattle Children's Leadership. Planning: Works with administrative and clinical leaders to support quality and performance improvement to ensure that program goals are attained. Participates in task forces and committees, as applicable to Service Line or Seattle Children's leadership. Research: Identifies opportunities and actively participate in scientific investigations and collaborations. The successful applicant will be expected to apply for and obtain extramural grant support and provide mentorship to faculty and trainees in scholarly work. Maintains academic productivity commensurate for track and rank. Clinical Care: While clinical care is not a requirement, psychologists with clinical expertise and appropriate accreditation are encouraged to participate in the care of children with diabetes and their families. Clinical care is conducted in a multidisciplinary team approach, with psychosocial services provided by psychologists together with social worker and other mental health specialists. Education: Supports research training and education for trainees and faculty. The base salary range for this position will be: Associate Professor, PhD or Professor, PhD $13,334 - $25,000 per month ($160,000 - $300,000 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in the University benefit determinations and calculations.
Qualifications The successful candidate will have earned a PhD and/or Psy.D. (or foreign equivalent) in clinical psychology or related fields. Faculty providing clinical care will also be required to meet WA Department of Health licensure requirements.
