The Associate Director, Law Career Development will provide externship and general career coaching to UBalt Law students, with a focus on public interest careers and helping administer the UBalt Law Externship Program. Responsibilities include overseeing the public interest career programming, including state and local government programs, public service job fairs, and administering public interest funding programs. They would also coordinate the Pro Bono Challenge program, including identifying pro bono opportunities, collaborating with partners, supporting student involvement, and collecting and reporting on volunteer hours.  This role will include staffing the LCDO office and LCDO events as necessary. They will assist the Director of Externships in program management, including identifying and promoting opportunities, vetting placements, conducting site visits, and maintaining required data and records. The Associate Director will help maintain compliance with ABA Standards relevant to their role by training and communicating with field placement supervisors and students to ensure that field placements are meeting their learning objectives.

Provide one-on-one counseling to UBalt law students on externship and career search strategies, review resumes and application materials, provide coaching on interviewing, networking, and professional communication skills. Assist with externship and LCDO programming, including information sessions, panel presentations, trainings, networking opportunities and outreach to student groups.
Assist in Externship Program curricular administration, including providing support to adjunct faculty on syllabi, course pages, and curricular requirements.  
Employer Relations: 
Establish and nurture relations with public interest employers, including those in state and local government. Cultivate and promote opportunities, track externship approval process, identify and vet potential field placements, conduct site visits and supervisor training, and help maintain current employer data in the career management database. Promote regional public interest career fairs.
Manage Public Interest Fellowships: 
Process and administer accompanying grants. MLSC grant writing, promoting and publicizing opportunities, and serve as liaison to public service employers and funders. Manage public service internship and fellowship application and award processes.
Statistics and Reporting: 
Collect and analyze employment and externship data and statistics. Compile reports. Utilize computer database for employment reporting and information gathering.
LCDO Programming:
Coordinate the Pro Bono Challenge Program, including identifying pro bono opportunities, collaborating with clinic faculty to leverage community relationships, supporting student involvement, planning, and administering Alternative Spring Break, and collecting and reporting on volunteer hours. Serve as liaison with student organization, UBSPI.
Required Education and Experience 
Education:  Juris Doctor (JD) 
Experience: Five years or more in the practice of law or related professional experience.   
Preferred Education and Experience 
Education: 
Experience:  Experience in career development and placement strategies in the legal field, related industries or in an institution of higher education. 
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, strong written and oral expression, and computer literacy including career services database software and online resources. Familiarity with the legal job market is preferred, as is previous experience in marketing, recruiting, and presentation and speaking skills.  Experience in placement or other student services function is preferred. Work requires strong communication, organizational, collaborative, and interpersonal skills. Work experience in government, public interest, career development and/or clinical programs at a law school would also be a plus. Passion for direct student services.
