The Associate Director, Conservation Cleanups is responsible for the management and activities supporting Ocean Conservancy's programmatic work to reduce plastic pollution through removal efforts. The Associate Director works primarily with the Senior Director and International Coastal Cleanup® (ICC) team to execute a multi-year strategy to remove 50 million pounds of trash from beaches and waterways. This position plays a critical role in expanding the impact of Ocean Conservancy and the ICC through on-the-ground engagement with partners and catalyzing removal projects. A large part of this role is to work across the institution to grow the global recognition of Ocean Conservancy's brand by engaging with companies, partners and communities around the world. The ideal candidate for this position will possess exceptional flexibility, collaborative prowess and a dedication to excellence while driving strategic initiatives and executing tactical plans.
The Associate Director, Conservation Cleanups will have the following primary responsibilities:
Spearheads the implementation of a multi-year strategy and workplan to advance Ocean Conservancy's goal to remove 50 million pounds of trash by 2030 in concert with senior leadership.
Builds and manages highly collaborative relationships with partners, communities and companies to advance Ocean Conservancy's impact goals.
Serves as the liaison to communications department staff to ensure an integrated approach and consistent messaging.
Partners with development and finance departments and the Senior Director to ensure timely and efficient completion of all financial and administrative matters, including program budgets, funder proposals, reports and work plans.
Leads in identifying partnerships and opportunities that advance conservation outcomes in an environmentally and socially just way.
Manages and oversees a small team, including providing regular direction and advice, mentoring and support that leads to excellence and accountability.
Advises and assists Senior Director in managing and directing daily operational functions to support successful program execution.
Performs other duties to advance Ocean Conservancy's goals and mission.
REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will possess many of the experiences and qualifications described below but need not possess them all for consideration:
Bachelor's degree (preferred) and/or five or more years of professional experience; prior work in marine conservation, partnership building and/or event implementation highly desirable.
Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to lead or participate in activities and projects that include diverse stakeholders.
Demonstrated capacity to work effectively with diverse teams, collaborate across disciplines, and work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders and communicate about complex science.
Trusted and respected leader with experience leading individuals and teams to success.
Proven multi-tasking skills with the ability to see the big picture and remain attentive to details, deadlines and deliverables.
Highly responsive and collaborative with an appreciation of the benefit of a multi-disciplinary team approach; willing to take on a variety of tasks to further the program goals.
Strong proficiency in creating, managing and utilizing Excel spreadsheets with a specific emphasis on the ability to manipulate and analyze data and metrics.
Willingness to accept a varied workload and at times long hours in unpredictable environments; moves gear and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
TRAVEL
Significant domestic and international travel which includes weekends.

The Ocean Conservancy follows a hybrid work structure in the following states: AK, CA, DC, FL, MD, OR, VA, TX, WA, WV
COMPENSATION
Ocean Conservancy is committed to equity in its pay practices and posts expected hiring ranges for each of its positions. The expected base salary range is $90,389 to $132,825. Compensation will be commensurate with the candidate's specialty skills, years of experience, location, and unique background. We would welcome the opportunity to connect with potential candidates whose salary requirements may be outside of the expected hiring range.
