Job DescriptionThe position of Associate Dean for Public Health Programs is a critically important position for the Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine. The successful candidate will be a member of the College's Executive Board that reports directly to the Dean. They will help advance the College's learning, discovery and engagement goals. They will also be instrumental in the potential development of new public health programs and adapting the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) and Master in Public Health (MPH) curricula to future realities. Core responsibilities are as follows:• In collaboration with department heads, program directors, and faculty, the Associate Dean is responsible for the design, planning, operation, and assessment of public health programs• Plays a significant role in shaping cocurricular activities for public health students• Oversees public health graduate student admissions, academic records, student affairs, and student financial support and public health undergraduate instruction and advising• Serves as the college liaison with the Vice Provost for Academic Programs and oversees public health educational activities of the college regardless of activity location• Oversees monitoring, evaluation, and subsequent adaptations resulting from outcomes assessment of programmatic and operational effectiveness to pursue constant quality improvement of public health programs• Establishes and maintains an organizational structure and staffing to effectively and efficiently accomplish programmatic goals and objectives• Oversees recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation of assigned staff• Represents the College and University to various institutional divisions as well as externally to governmental agencies, donors, students and their parents, and the general public• Recommends and participates in the development of University policies and procedures• Oversees annual unit budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and effectiveness analyses• May serve on University planning and policymaking committees• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assignedAppointment with tenure will be considered based on qualifications and previous experience.Required Qualifications• Doctoral degree (PhD, or equivalent) with a distinguished, well-rounded record of scholarship, including excellence in teaching• Faculty experience in a school (or college) focused on public health education• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion environment, team building, and faculty collaboration• Demonstrated clarity of thought and efficacy of communication with diverse teams and stakeholder groups• Demonstrated empathy in mentorship of students in issues pertaining to academic affairs• Knowledge of curricular design, evaluation, review, and requirements for accreditation at either the undergraduate or graduate level (or both)• Knowledge of innovations in public health education• Qualified to hold a professional appointment in the population health sciences department• Academic credentials consistent with rank of associate professor or higherPreferred Qualifications• Demonstrated experience in administrative oversight of curricular design, evaluation, review, and requirements for accreditation of public health programs• Demonstrated involvement in innovation of public health education• Previous experience with undergraduate education, as well as experience in the administration of undergraduate programsPay BandFacultyAppointment TypeRegularReview DateFebruary 26, 2024Additional InformationPlease attach the following additional document:1.
