Department Summary The Gas Dispatch and Scheduling Department is responsible for the Consumers Energy's 24/7 Gas Emergency Dispatch and short cycle gas scheduling operations. The department consists of approximately 50 employees and operates out of 3 Work Management Centers located in Saginaw, Jackson and Royal Oak. Royal Oak is responsible for 24/7 operations, while Saginaw and Jackson operate on a 16/7 schedule Monday through Sunday. The department is responsible for emergency response during normal day operations and afterhours. The primary goal of the department includes gas emergency response to emergency situations involving the public and employee safety. The Gas Dispatch Operations is an integral part in serving customers in a safe fashion, while providing quick response to their needs.
Job Description/Responsibilities Rotating shifts to maintain a 24-hour/7 day a week operation, as well as overtime assignments are required. During the first 6 months in the position, you will be thoroughly trained in all aspects of the Gas Dispatcher role. During this time period, you may be asked to travel for required training. This position requires you to obtain Arcos training.
Gas Dispatcher responsibilities include, but are not limited to : Short-cycle scheduling to make and meet customer commitments. Coordinate activities with outside agencies such as 911, MISS DIG, other utilities, etc. Prepare emergency distribution orders for distribution workers, utility and ASP work to customer service workers. Assist in training of co-workers as well as support employees from other work groups. Due to the training involved in getting a new employee fully functional in the Dispatcher role, upon accepting this position, you will be ineligible to apply for another internal job posting outside the Dispatch job family during the first thirty months. Required Qualifications One or more years of technical experience in SAP, CAD, OMS, GIS, Dispatching Software, etc.  OR  extensive business knowledge of the utility industry  OR  other applicable non-technical experience like Customer Service, Project Management etc. A two-year Associate degree in a scientific, technical, or business field  OR 48 scientific, technical, or business credit hours as measured on a semester basis  OR  a bachelor's degree.  An understanding of the basic natural gas fundamentals and the ability to analyze and interpret complex prints. Preferred Qualifications Advanced Microsoft Office experience. Knowledge of the union working agreement. Knowledge of Service Suite and the ability to learn new software quickly. Experience dispatching work to field resources. The ability to read and interpret operation manuals. Experience communicating via two-way radio. Possess the ability to interact with customers in courteous manner. Essential Functions
Continuously monitor multiple systems and applications for emergencies, public safety concerns, and customer demand work. Talk on the phone or two-way radio; use a computer and manage multiple applications for up to 8 hours or more per day; follow and provide written and oral work instructions; type, write and take notes; be able to use standard office equipment; be able to multitask (work on multiple tasks at once); communicate clearly with customers, contractors, employees, and outside agencies; stay calm and composed in high pressure situations or emergencies. Dispatch emergency work including gas leaks. Perform workload management. Review customer committed work. Call customers for commitment work. Reschedule orders. Perform employee call outs. Create damage notifications. Provide reporting. Understand and follow Company-established procedures for safety, work methods, and dispatching. A Dispatcher is required to maintain On-Call support for work management centers. Performs other related duties as required. Regular attendance is expected.
Hours and Travel
This position normally requires the individual work 40 hours per week including rotating shifts to maintain a 24 hour/7 day a week operation including holidays and weekends. Overtime assignments are required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The noise level on the field site is often loud. Employee must have the ability to drive a motor vehicle legally.
