Position Title: Assistant Teaching Professor in Animal Science - Intercollegiate Meats Judging Coordinator Appointment Type: Faculty Job Description: Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: The Department of Animal Science in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, seeks applicants for a 9-month Assistant Teaching Professor (not tenure-eligible) with responsibilities including teaching Animal Science courses primarily related to meat science and livestock production, academic advising, as well as coordination of the ISU Intercollegiate Meats Judging Team. The position is a 3-year term with the option for renewal and is eligible for advancement of rank. Position responsibilities are approximately 75% teaching and 25% institutional service. The faculty member will contribute significantly to the department's teaching mission through teaching courses in the animal sciences major including, but not limited to, animal food composition laboratory, issues in animal agriculture, and introduction to animal husbandry. It is expected that the faculty member will participate in ongoing classroom improvement and participate in high-impact learning practices. The service component will include advising undergraduate animal science student organizations and serving as the Intercollegiate Meats Judging Coordinator. In this role, the faculty member will have the capacity to encourage a competitive judging environment and develop relevant professional skills in students. The position may require some travel and work during the evenings and weekends.
Required Minimum Qualifications: - M.S. or Ph.D. in animal science and/or meat science or a closely related area
Preferred Qualifications: - Evidence of effective teaching and communication skills.
- Experience in academic advising of undergraduate students.
- Experience working in a team-based, collaborative environment.
- Experience in coordinating and/or leading an intercollegiate meat judging program and/or experience in competing on an intercollegiate meat judging team.
