Position Title: Assistant Teaching Professor - Women's and Gender Studies Appointment Type: Faculty Job Description: Summary of Duties and Responsibilities: The Women's and Gender Studies Program (WGS) and the Carrie Chapman Catt Center in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University in Ames, IA seek an Assistant Teaching Professor to teach five courses per academic year in WGS and to coordinate student research and outreach at the Catt Center. We seek a candidate to teach undergraduate and graduate students such as Introduction to Women's and Gender Studies, Introduction to Queer Studies, Feminist Theories, and Feminist Research Methods. The Catt Center portion of the position will include supervising research interns and overseeing projects such as the Women in Iowa Politics Database, Gender Balance Project, Ready to Run, and student voter turnout initiatives. The ideal candidates would also have the expertise to teach classes outside the program in areas such as communication and leadership studies if needed.
This part-time term faculty position is an 87.5% full-time equivalent (FTE), 9-month position with an initial 3-year term beginning 8/16/24. Renewal is possible based on Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship. Required Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. in a relevant field, such as women's and gender studies, communication, and political science.
College-level teaching experience in women's and gender studies or related areas
Online teaching experience
Preferred Qualifications: Research experience in women and politics in Iowa,
Experience mentoring and supervising undergraduate researchers,
Teaching experience in another LAS humanities or social science field such as communication, leadership studies, or English,
Experience using Microsoft Excel for simple data analysis.
