The Utah State University Athletic Department is looking for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Assistant Softball Coach to join our team and contribute to the success of our student-athletes. The ideal candidate will have a passion for the game of softball, a commitment to helping our student-athletes reach their full potential, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team environment. To be successful in this role, the Assistant Women's Softball Coach should have strong knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, a comprehensive understanding of the game, and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The Assistant Women's Softball Coach will be responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all aspects of the program and performing other duties as needed. This position will collaborate with the Head Coach to ensure compliance with NCAA policies and regulations, serve as a liaison within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, and engage with the Cache Valley and Utah State University communities, as well as participate in activities beyond the Softball program, contributing to the overall success and reputation of USU Athletics.
The Head Coach in all facets of the softball program, including but not limited to on and off-campus recruiting, practice organization, and game planning. Maintain a strong working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, ensuring compliance in all aspects of the program's operations. Violation of conference or NCAA regulation, as well as those policies of the university, could create negative publicity and jeopardize the University in conference or NCAA standings. Violations by employees will be documented and dealt with on an individual basis and can be cause for dismissal. Manage assigned budget responsibly, including overseeing equipment purchases and travel expenses. Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes and provide support as needed to ensure their success in the classroom. Demonstrate proficiency in softball coaching techniques and strategies, with the ability to develop athletes at every position. Uphold and promote a culture of integrity, sportsmanship, and ethical conduct among staff, student-athletes, and representatives of athletic interests. Successfully complete the NCAA recruiting exam and adhere to all recruiting guidelines and regulations. Foster team cohesion and camaraderie through effective team-building activities and communication. Engage with the community and media to promote the softball program and foster positive relationships both on and off-campus. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree  Previous coaching experience at the collegiate or professional level, with a focus on softball Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Softball Knowledge: Strong knowledge of softball fundamentals, strategies, and techniques is required to effectively coach and advise student-athletes. Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to effectively convey instructions, motivate players, and collaborate with other coaching staff. Leadership Abilities: Demonstrated leadership abilities are crucial for leading practice sessions, delegating responsibilities to assistant coaches, and fostering a positive team culture. Team Player: The ability to collaborate with the head coach and other staff members to create a supportive and competitive team environment is important. Mentorship: A commitment to serving as a mentor and role model for student-athletes, promoting academic success, and personal development is required. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. When outside, will not be protected from weather conditions, including extreme cold and extreme heat for extended periods.
The position requires considerable physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including heavy lifting (50 pounds) and/or pushing and pulling of heavy objects. Employees must be prepared to assume uncomfortable positions such as crawling, kneeling, and squatting.
