General Summary:  This is a full-time faculty position. The Assistant Professor & Program Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the Paralegal Program, offering associate degree and post-graduate certificate options on both the Lowell and Bedford campuses and online, as allowed by ABA standards. The Assistant Professor & Program Coordinator is a creative and knowledgeable individual responsible for teaching in the program, program and curriculum development, student recruitment and evaluation of transfer course credit, development and coordination of student internships, student advising, and placement assistance for graduates of the Paralegal program at MCC. The coordinator collaborates with full-time faculty, and recruits, supervises, and provides ongoing professional development for adjunct faculty that meet twice per year adhering to ABA requirements. The coordinator maintains and leads an advisory board that meets twice per year adhering to ABA standards. This includes providing outreach to area schools and local bar associations. Duties and Responsibilities: Provide academic leadership and direction within the department that supports Academic Pathways, Program Maps, student transfer and career readiness Staff and schedule courses with full and part-time faculty in accordance with the MCCC contract Coordinate curriculum with other college departments and facilitate their staffing needs Review and evaluate part-time faculty course materials using contractual checklist In consultation with Dean: recruit, interview, and hire new part-time faculty Orient and mentor new part-time faculty Perform classroom observations of part-time faculty using the DCE E-3 form and submit completed forms to Dean and Human Resources Develop and prepare program/department assessment and accreditation materials including Assessment Day activities Coordinate the Paralegal student advising schedule Participate in recruitment activities at open houses, K-12 partnership meetings, high schools, and employers as appropriate Manage the development and improvement of departmental curricula Schedule and chair at least six department meetings over the course of the academic year. Communicate college policies and procedures to full and part-time faculty Prepare timely budget requests Request, interpret, and, present data regarding program and student success Schedule meetings as needed including Advisory Boards, faculty and community meetings Serve as the Paralegal Department point of contact for other departments regarding information requests, issue resolution, and project development Participate in the development and implementation grants as appropriate Choose and order textbooks for un-staffed sections Maintain and update departmental website Serve on departmental and other relevant search committees Other duties within the department assigned Fulfill all contractual obligations Job Requirements: Juris Doctorate degree, or other advanced legal degree, such as an LL.M. Admission and good standing to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction Successful teaching experience in a higher-education setting Experience in teaching paralegal courses in two or more substantive legal areas Experience with a variety of instructional methods, and a demonstrated ability to develop or apply innovative instructional approaches, and a willingness to integrate technology into the classroom; Experience with curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation Evidence of strong written and verbal communication skills Evidence of the ability to work independently with minimal supervision Evidence of the ability to think critically and creatively Evidence of commitment to continuous professional development in legal or paralegal education Experience with equity-minded work and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities such as race, ethnicity, socioeconomic level, sexual orientation, veterans, and individuals with different academic preparation levels and varying physical and learning abilities Preferred Qualifications:  Knowledge of Community College academic programs, services and culture is preferred Demonstrated experience with ABA Approval and reporting requirements is strongly preferred Demonstrated experience with AAfPE and its standards is strongly preferred Additional Information: Salary Range: $52,970 is the starting salary for Column B under the MCCC 2022 Salary Grids for an Assistant Professor Rank with a Master's Degree, actual salary commensurate with academic background and experience.
