Position Description The University of Washington (UW) and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) are recruiting for a full-time Assistant Professor (without tenure due to funding) in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, Department of Medicine at UW and in the Pathogen Associated Malignancies Integrated Research Center and Human Biology Division at Fred Hutch. Patient care efforts will occur at the University of Washington Medical Center, Montlake Campus.
The successful candidate will be expected to engage in laboratory-based duties focused in the area of cancer caused by pathogens, or in the role of the microbiome in cancer. The candidate will conduct research in one or more of the following areas: molecular mechanisms of cancer initiation, progression, and metastasis by viruses or bacteria; the role of the microbiome in cancer; molecular mechanisms of disparities in cancer biology; cancers relevant to underdeveloped countries; novel therapeutics and mechanisms of drug resistance. This faculty position will have some additional expectation of clinical care and teaching. Teaching responsibilities may involve mentorship and oversight of trainees in the laboratory and during outpatient rotations, and delivery of informal teaching sessions and formal lectures to providers and the general medical community.
Assistant professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
Anticipated start date would be October 2024 or later.

Qualifications Applicants must have a medical degree (MD/DO) or foreign equivalent. Applicants must be board certified or eligible (or foreign equivalent) in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine. Applicants must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Washington.
