Job SummaryUnder the Supervision of the Basic Needs Director, the Assistant Director, Program Services and Outreach will lead the creation, development, and implementation of campus outreach programming and services, as well as partnership programming and services for the Basic Needs department. The incumbent will work with the Director and staff to primarily coordinate outreach efforts to serve students and connect students to resources. This position provides hands-on experience working with students and campus departments, as well as oversight of the grants (e.g. CalFresh, etc.). Furthermore, the incumbent provides services that are equitable, inclusive, and culturally sensitive to enhance the quality of campus life. This position uses a student-centered and equity-minded approach in all communication and service efforts.ACPA's 2024 Most Promising Places to Work in Student Affairs.Key ResponsibilitiesProgramming and Services- Lead outreach and engagement efforts for Basic Needs by creating and implementing programming specific to the needs and concerns of Basic Needs students.Develop and facilitate workshops and training to educate various CSULB departments regarding the laws, policies, and etiquette for various Basic Needs programs (e.g., BeachBites app, Roommate Board, and other programs/resources as assigned).Oversight of Grants- Organize, execute, and assess grant related activities including but not limited to outreach, programming, and budgeting (e.g., CalFresh).Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesExcellent communication skills both written and orally using grammatically correct English effectively on a one-to-one basis, over the telephone, or in a group setting to obtain information. Ability to speak, lead, and professionally present in public. Experience giving presentations in a variety of frameworks and content areas. Ability to exercise sound time management skills and control of projects and work pro-actively to mitigate delays, budget problems and any additional complication that may jeopardize programming and/or events. Ability to be collaborative and build community to foster an inclusive environment. Ability to maintain equanimity during emergencies and resistance from clients including the ability to mediate conflict effectively. Can contribute to the development of a strong sense of community and positive campus climate. Can manage and mediate conflict effectively. Well-versed in student development theory, leadership development, etc. Committed to and has a thorough understanding of issues of diversity, inclusion, and social justice in higher education. Strong interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships and communicate clearly and effectively with students, staff, faculty, peers, administrators, campus and University personnel, clients, state officials, vendors, professionals, management, etc.Ability to work as part of a team through close collaboration with colleagues and coordinate with others. Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position. Knowledge of higher education services and high impact practices. Strong writing skills to produce reports and synthesize large amounts of information. Ability to manage, organize and demonstrate command of a complex and continuously changing array of information, dates, places and people in a systematic way in order to optimize efficiency and minimize duplication of effort in the process of completing projects. Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations procedures etc. to define the problem, identify relevant issues, and generate reasonable and appropriate alternatives or solutions. Proficiency in using PC computers utilizing programs such as Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, etc.). Ability to consistently report to work on time prepared to perform the duties of the position. Ability to drive to various on and off campus sites to conduct training, make presentations, and conduct programmatic activities. Ability to lift, move, and transport equipment or supplies weighing ~25 lbs. to event and programming locations, workstations, and offices throughout Campus and Off Campus. Serves as a Campus Security Authority under the Clery Act and Executive Order 1107. Promptly reports allegations of Clery qualifying crimes that occur within a campus' Clery geography.Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures.
