Brief Summary of Work for this position: The Assistant Director of Facilities, in coordination with the Director of Campus Life Facilities and Business Services and other staff, is responsible for general Campus Life facility operations providing spaces, programs and service which promote community, student development and engagement. These program and services include student staff supervision and development, oversight of general and preventative maintenance functions, and director of all health and safety functions. The Assistant Director supervises one full-time employee and up to 35 student employees including building manager, facility assistant, and information center employees. The Assistant Director is an integral member of the Campus Life management team and assists with strategic planning and budget development processes.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience : Master's degree and one to three years of experience in a Union setting Student personnel supervision at the collegiate level. Experience with student staff training and development Experience development high impact practices for student employees Ability to lead projects and communicate facilities needs to other team members. Facility Management and risk management experience 1+ years of supervision/management experience Experience working in a facility management position Required Certifications or Licensure: None
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit: The Division of Student Affairs consists of thirteen functional departments, each of which is responsible for providing a variety of student support, service, and educational programs which are accessible to all members of the university community. The staff members are dedicated individuals known for their passion and commitment to implementing programs and services that affect student development over the course of a lifetime. Student Affairs provides excellent delivery of student services that are responsive to student needs and promotes the quality of life and education both inside and outside the classroom. The Division is a leader and primary spokesperson for students.
The Campus Life department supports and gives direction to out-of-classroom learning. Based on the philosophy that learning is not confined to the classroom but is constant and on-going, the mission of the department is to facilitate the educational process by providing a laboratory experience for student growth, and an arena for the development of cultural, social, leadership, and recreational awareness. This is accomplished through the administration of the Fisher Student Center, University Union, Burney Center and Warwick Center and their programs and services, by providing guidance and resources to student leaders and organizations and serving as the campus' central point of reference regarding leadership development, student activities and organizations, fraternity and sorority life, and service learning and community engagement.
Campus Life also serves as the first point of contact for conference and event planning and assumes the space scheduling coordination function for all campus space (except for academic course scheduling) and works with campus space stewards in various departments throughout campus to ensure timely, coordinated service for all customers.
