Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health invites applications for the position of Manager - Assessment & Referral . Located in Norfolk Virginia, Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is a leading community partner providing acute , residential , and Partial Hospitalization treatment for children and teens exhibiting behavioral and/or mental health concerns. The hospital is dedicated to providing high quality care to children, adolescents and their families. We provide quality care to children and adolescents in need, using quality, evidence based practice treatments. Founded in 1986, Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health is an 82-bed hospital facility accredited by The Joint Commission (TJC), and licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia and The Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS). As leading healthcare providers here at Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health, we require all employees to be fully vaccinated. Position Scope: Coordinates all aspects of the acute process from time of inquiry call through admission.  Provides crisis intervention and evaluation services. Provides direct supervision to the Clinical Assessment Team in coordination with the Director of Admissions.  Completes management tasks as assigned by Director of Admissions. 
Oversees acute referrals and admissions                                        Completes voluntary, involuntary, direct, and mobile admissions. Maintains confidential clinical and financial records for all patients served. Acts as the Court Liaison as necessary, coordinating with local Community Services Boards and Norfolk Juvenile Intake for all Temporary Detention admissions. Provides direct supervision to the Clinical Assessment Team. Ensures Service Excellence delivery. Additional duties and responsibilities include: Reporting to the Director of Admissions, or designee, the Manager:
1.  Facilitates all aspects of the assessment and admission process for patients seeking evaluation for psychiatric (with possible co-occurring substance abuse) treatment. 
2.  Provide comprehensive medical evaluations for referrals into our system from medical units, emergency rooms and/or other facilities through the completion of nurse to nurse process.
3.  Provides clinical and medical reviews for pending referrals with physicians for acceptance / obtain orders.
4.  Provides efficient and effective handling of inquiry calls from referral sources, patients, and family members seeking treatment options.
5.  Coordinates with referral agencies in facilitating step down/direct transfer admissions to both our inpatient and/or outpatient continuum of care.
6.  Coordinates with insurance companies for authorizations of recommended treatment.
7.  Responsible for accurate and timely documentation.
8.  Provides a comprehensive level of care assessment for the purpose of providing a recommendation for treatment within our continuum of care.
9.  Works collaboratively with the department Director and Supervisor to ensure compliance with state and facility requirements.
10.  Provides comprehensive leadership to department team members, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures.
Qualifications An individual must be able to perform each essential function of the job satisfactorily. Good verbal and written skills, ability to rotate shifts and roles as necessary, ability to maintain confidentiality of patient information. Demonstrates knowledge of risk factors for violence and determining potential for violent acting out and ability to assess suicidal/homicidal ideations. On-call and holidays required.
Demonstrated extensive knowledge of current psychiatric diagnostic and treatment terminology. Demonstrated extensive knowledge of crisis intervention techniques, biopsychosocial assessments, mental status examination, and clinical interview. Demonstrated extensive knowledge of various regional referral and funding sources. Demonstrated extensive knowledge of and ability to identify risk factors for violence, and potential for violent behaviors. Demonstrated extensive ability to assess suicidal/homicidal ideations. Must be available for on-call and holiday schedules, as required. Advanced experience of five or more years in mental health counseling, and crisis intervention counseling strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Skill in the use of computer systems and software applications, including Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel). Must be able to handle multiple competing task, with minimum supervision, and take initiative on matters of revolving urgency. Must be a current internal employee of Kempsville Center for Behavioral Health. Education: Master's degree in a social science, such as counseling, psychology, or social work. 
Licensure/Certification: None
Experience:                  One or more years' experience in mental counseling, crisis intervention counseling preferred.  Preferred experience
in an acute psychiatric healthcare setting.  Knowledge of current psychiatric diagnostic and treatment terminology. 
Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques, biopsychosocial assessments, mental status examinations, and
clinical interviews.  Must have knowledge of various types of referral sources in the area, as well as the various
types of funding available.  Knowledge of and ability to use oral and writing composition skills, basic math,
personal computer, Excel and Word software, telephone, copier, and fax machine.
Physical Requirements:                       The physical requirements for this position include being able to stand, squat, kneel, sit and lie on the floor for long
periods of time.  Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds. The individual must be physically capable of
providing direct total physical care to unpredictable, potentially violent, mentally ill patients as necessary, including
lifting, supporting, running towards or away from areas where problems are occurring.  Ability to successfully
perform the facility crisis intervention training and CPR.
