The University of South Dakota is seeking an Assistant Director for the Student Counseling Center. The counselor will assist the Director with goal setting, program planning, and strategic planning. They will provide direct mental health counseling and substance abuse counseling for registered students, outreach campus-wide with a focus in the School of Health Sciences and Sanford School of Medicine.
The Assistant Director will serve as the health professions liaison and provide counseling services within the continuum of care, develop and supervise mental health/chemical dependency counselor trainees, perform quality care review of client files, conduct needs assessments and program evaluations, plan new treatment programs or initiatives, and secure external funding to ensure that students' mental health/substance abuse problems are recognized and addressed. The Assistant Director will maintain accurate records to ensure effective operation of the department and continued accreditation and funding. The position is required to assist with on-call duties on a rotating basis.
Qualifications: Masters degree in counseling, social work, psychology or a related human services field required including the ability to be credentialed/licensed in the state of South Dakota within one year. It is also a requirement to be licensed as an Addictions Counselor, Certified Addictions Counselor or eligible for licensing/certification within two years. Supervisory/administrative experience desired. Experience in performance and management of a Mental Health clinic. Possesses knowledge of relevant regulations and quality standards of
ASAM
criteria, as well as accreditation standards per the state of SD Department of Social Services or accrediting agency.
