Job Description
The Assistant Controller will assist in managing day-to-day general ledger account activities and help manage the Finance team. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter and have experience in leadership and developing teams. He/she will be responsible for providing functional support to ensure that the organization's official accounting records are properly maintained in accordance with internal policies, external laws and regulations, and generally accepted accounting principles. Reporting directly to the Director of Finance, primary responsibilities include: managing, training, developing, coordinating and reviewing the work of assigned Finance staff; implementing and maintaining accounting policies and procedures; ensuring the accuracy of the organization's financial records; preparation of accurate and timely financial statements; assisting the Director of Finance with projects as necessary.Job Specific Duties Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Primarily responsible for leadership, oversight, and training of Accounts Payable, Payroll, Accounts Receivable, Billing, and Accounting staff.Responsible for accuracy of monthly financials and variance analysis to ensure an understanding of any fluctuationsPrepares period-end general ledger closing procedures.Ensures financial statements are in conformity with generally accepted accounting principlesFacilitates the preparation, analysis and presentation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, financial/operational dashboards and statistical data to senior management and committees in a timely and efficient manner.Ensures finances are managed with responsible stewardshipLeads interim and year-end audit procedures, facilitating between external audit firm and internal preparersAssists Director of Finance on resident and board facing committeesEnsures compliance with regulatory and in-house standards and best practices.Responsible to periodically review processes and procedures to ensure effectivenessWill assist in implementation of new financial systems, upgrades, or enhancements as they occurProvides leadership to other projects as assignedEducation & ExperienceBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required5+ years of progressively responsible accounting and managerial experience is requiredExperience in public accounting is preferredKnowledge of full accounting cycleProficiency in ExcelContinuing Care Retirement Community, Senior Living, Healthcare or Hospitality Industry experience is a plusKnowledge of Federal, State and third party insurance billing and reimbursementsKnowledge of general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, taxes and banking is requiredStrategic financial planning, budgeting, forecasting and financial modeling experience is preferredKnowledge of 401(k), 990 regulatory compliance and Medicare, Medicaid cost reports and ability to performCPA certification is a plus
