Duties and Responsibilities
The Civil Enforcement Division of the Oregon Department of Justice
is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, and experienced attorney to join our antitrust, false claims and privacy/data security team in the Civil Enforcement Division. The Civil Enforcement Division is the Oregon DOJ's plaintiff's civil litigation arm. Working alone or in teams, this attorney will apply their skills and experience to identify, investigate and prosecute complex civil cases related to antitrust and false claims, and other priority enforcement areas for the Department. Duties will include issuing investigative demands, taking sworn witness interviews, management of large document reviews, and working with consulting experts and investigators to evaluate legal and strategic issues. When warranted, this attorney will seek restitution, penalties, and injunctive relief through a negotiated settlement or, if necessary, through litigation in state or federal court. The attorney in this position may also participate in or lead joint investigations with other state attorneys general and federal agencies. Office Location/ Remote Work
This position may be based in either Portland or Salem with opportunities for working remotely on a hybrid schedule.
Required
Be admitted to the Oregon bar or be clearly eligible to waive into the Oregon Bar and be in good standing at the time of application. Candidates eligible to waive into the Oregon Bar will be required to submit proof of their completed application before the first day of employment.
Minimum of three (3) years' civil litigation experience, which includes experience developing cases, handling discovery, and motion practice.
Experience taking or defending depositions in state or federal court actions.
Experience negotiating settlements and resolving disputes.
Willingness and ability to litigate civil cases.
Willingness and ability to manage a robust caseload with time-sensitive assignments, to consistently produce high quality work, and to work collaboratively with colleagues..
Superior writing and oral advocacy skills, excellent analytical skills, sound judgment, and be able to think creatively about complex legal issues.
Willingness and ability to travel.
Ability to clear all actual or potential ethical conflicts to represent the state.
Strong work ethic and a commitment to public service.
Desired Experience
Preferred candidates passionate about a career in civil enforcement, should have:
Five or more years of complex civil litigation experience.
Experience
handling cases involving antitrust or false claims issues and/or knowledge of applicable state and federal laws.
investigating and building cases for litigation, including government civil law enforcement actions or criminal prosecutions.
Experience or academic background in economics or data science.
Although antitrust or false claims experience is desired, the Oregon Department of Justice is particularly interested in applications from litigators generally. Attorneys with experience in class action litigation, commercial litigation, or other litigation fields are encouraged to apply. Attorneys who have other experience that they believe would be relevant to the Division's work such as in the fields of healthcare, technology, finance are also encouraged to apply.

This OAJA-represented position will be filled at either the Assistant Attorney General or Senior Assistant Attorney General level, salary range $8,298.00 - $16,113.00 per month, depending primarily on years of legal practice experience and other factors. Employees who are Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) participating members will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay a 6% employee contribution to PERS; the salary range noted reflects base salary only.
