Summary:
Successful candidates are expected to have and/or obtain an independent, externally funded, and sustainable scholarly research program, evidence of conducting rigorous and innovative research, a strong track record of publications and scholarly activities, and will participate in Department of Family Medicine and Community Health (DFMCH) and Program in Health Disparities Research (PHDR) projects and programs, and teach medical and public health students and residents. In addition, candidates will co-direct, in collaboration with the Vice Chair for Research and an administrative network manager, to facilitate the Practice-Based Research Network (PBRN) in the DFMCH and the Primary Care Service Line (PCSL) .
Hire will be at Assistant, Associate, or Professor level, tenure-track or tenured, depending upon qualifications.  Candidates seeking the rank of Tenured Associate Professor or Tenured Professor must have an established academic record of accomplishment  commensurate  with this rank and the a bility to qualify for appointment as an Associate Professor at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
Job Description: 25% effort; Co-direct the PBRN in the DFMCH and the PCSL. 50% effort; Responsible for overseeing the ongoing development and implementation of own externally funded research projects (e.g. NIH) dealing with health related problems.   5-10% effort; Prepare new grant proposals and secure independent research funding. 15-20% effort; Clinical or teaching effort within affiliated primary care clinic or as faculty consultant for clinical faculty in the Research Services Hub. Participate in DFMCH and PHDR projects and programs including teaching medical students, residents, post docs, graduate students, etc. Candidate is expected to have paid effort as either Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on NIH grants or equivalent funding. Required Qualifications: PhD or equivalent in a health, mental health/behavioral medicine, public health, or related field, or MD/DO with board certification in Family Medicine.  Experience with conducting health services research or learning health systems science research. Experience with research methodology such as longitudinal study design, mixed methods research, natural experiments, clinical trials, etc. Evidence of success with publication of manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and presentations of results at conferences of importance to the field of the applicant.  Experience developing grant proposals and obtaining research funding.  Experience mentoring graduate and/or medical students. Preferred Qualifications: Training in a public health field such as behavioral health, health disparities/health equity, nutrition, chronic disease, etc.   Experience as a principal or co-investigator developing grant proposals at a federal/national level with evidence of success at obtaining independent external research funding.  Strong quantitative and/or qualitative research methodology skills.  Publications and grants received in health services research and carrying out learning health systems science, including dissemination and implementation projects or working within PBRNs. Experience in research focused on race/racism as a social determinant of health.  Experience developing community or clinic collaborations and community-engaged research.  Experience working collaboratively with team members to solve complex health problems through integrated approaches including research, policy/system, clinic and community efforts.  Evidence of excellent communication skills as demonstrated by clarity of presentation.  Evidence of research excellence as demonstrated by publications and/or awards recognizing scientific excellence.  Active clinical license in medicine, mental health/behavioral medicine, nutrition, pharmacy, or other field that can work in a primary care setting.
