Position Description The Department of Radiology in the School of Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle is recruiting for one full-time (100% FTE) faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor without tenure (WOT) by reason of funding, commensurate with experience, to join the department with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2024. Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate Professors WOT and full Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide excellent clinical care. Responsibilities include the performance and/or interpretation of fluoroscopic studies, ultrasound, CT, and MRI scans. All faculty members participate in multidisciplinary conferences, which offer an opportunity to develop academic collaborations and build a reputation with our colleagues. Teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents and fellows is a large part of our Section's mission and it is required from all our faculty members.
Scholarly or creative work is a fundamental part of our academic life. Depending on the level of interest in performing research, the successful candidate may join our clinician-teacher pathway or physician-scientist pathway. We expect faculty members in the clinician-teacher pathway to be advocates of our trainees and to develop and/or participate in education-related activities, services and committees in our department, school of medicine, and/or in our major radiology societies. Faculty members in the physician-scientist pathway are expected to work in intra- and/or inter-departmental/institutional multidisciplinary teams and aim at becoming independent investigators in their area of interest, which may span from bench to implementation research.
The University of Washington Department of Radiology covers many sites including the University of Washington Medical Center (Montlake, Northwest, and Eastside clinics), Harborview Medical Center, Veteran's Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, and has an affiliate agreement for training with Seattle Children's Hospital. All UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
The base salary range for this position will be: $30,322 - $37,251 per month ($363,864 - $447,012 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. This position is incentive eligible through the physicians practice plan.

The Abdominal Imaging Section consists of 12 faculty members and 9 fellows. We are a large, diverse section with an extensive track record of academic success. While all faculty members have experience with all aspects of abdominal imaging, dedication and expertise in their chosen clinical and research areas is encouraged and supported. State of the art wide-detector and dual energy CT scanners, and 1.5T and 3T MR scanners perform all aspects of abdominal imaging. Service expansion with the addition of a brand-new PET/MR scanner will provide ample opportunities for clinical and translational research. Clinical ultrasound, including CEUS and elastography, is an active service that enjoys close relationships with all departments in the hospital. Fluoroscopy work includes the gamut of exams. We have ample departmental and university resources for teaching and research, including access to cutting edge technology from GE Healthcare and Philips Medical Imaging and protected academic time.
Seattle is consistently ranked among the top three urban areas for quality of life, with superb recreation and outdoor activities nearby and a very temperate climate. Despite its reputation, springs and summers in Seattle are sunny and warm. It is very family-friendly and accommodating to extensive sports and outdoors activities with excellent schools available. Qualifications Candidates should meet the following requirements:
M.D. or D.O., or foreign equivalent, in medicine Eligibility for license to practice medicine in Washington State ABR-certified in Radiology, ABR board-eligible, or foreign equivalent Successful completion of an Abdominal Imaging Fellowship In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
