Position Description The Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Seattle Children's Hospital and the University of Washington Department of Pediatrics invites interested applicants at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor without tenure by reason of funding (WOT) on the Clinician Scholar pathway for the position of Clinical Hematologist/Oncologist Medical Director Quality Improvement and Patient Safety. The FTE split is 60% clinical care and 40% medical directorship. Salary and rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor (WOT) will be commensurate with experience and accomplishments.
The Cancer & Blood Disorders Center of Seattle Children's Hospital provides a collaborative environment for basic, clinical, and translational research and boasts a diverse team, including 52 faculty members who are clinically active, 9 fellows as well as over 30 advanced practice providers. The successful candidate will provide clinical expertise caring for pediatric hematology/oncology or BMT patients while working within a highly collaborative team.
The Leader of Quality Improvement and Patient Safety within the Cancer and Blood Disorders Center (CBDC) provides medical leadership for clinical quality improvement activities to help hematology/oncology leadership ensure that patients receive safe, high-quality care within CBDC. Leadership responsibilities include identifying, aligning, and providing oversight to address key priorities for the organization, Division, CBDC and SCH Center for Quality. The leader will chair the Quality Governance Committee for the Division and delegate improvement work as appropriate to the other components of the operational quality system. These activities are undertaken in direct partnership with the Center for Quality and Safety.
This position will devote majority of effort to clinical responsibilities in the Cancer & Blood Disorders Center at Seattle Children's Hospital. Anticipated Start Date Summer 2024.
Develop and implement an educational strategy to improve quality improvement skills, engagement, capacity, and scholarly productivity for CBDC physicians and fellows. Provide clinical service and assure that patients cared for receive only the highest quality care. Contribute to and expand the clinical program and patient services in general and consultative hematology, in both the inpatient and outpatient settings Apply quality improvement skills, clinical informatics, continuous performance improvement (CPI Lean), System for Daily Improvement (SDI) methodologies, and training (Key Driver diagrams, Statistical Process Control) to the program and division. Participate in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.
Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
Associate and Full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professors MD $11,882 - $17,823 per month ($142,584 - $213,876 annually), Associate Professors MD $14,976 - $22,464 per month ($179,712 - $269,568 annually), Professors MD $18.809 - $28,213 per month ($225,708 - $338,556 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in university benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by Children's University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.
Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children's University Medical Group practice plan. Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative supplement (ADS).
Qualifications Successful Candidates will have
MD, MD/PhD, or DO degree (or foreign equivalent) Must be Board Certified in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology. Must be currently licensed as a physician and eligible for licensure as a physician in the State of Washington. In order to be eligible for university sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
