Job DescriptionThe Assistant/Associate Director of Inclusion and Engagement in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences (CLAHS) develops structures and supports to build a climate of inclusion and belonging for students. This position is housed in the CLAHS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion office and reports to the Assistant Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in CLAHS. The successful candidate will assist in the implementation of activities designed to achieve college-level goals related to student inclusion, belonging, and retention, with a particular focus on underrepresented and underserved students, and will utilize proven strategies to enhance academic success and belonging for diverse student populations.Key responsibilities:At the College level, develop, implement, and assess co-curricular programs with an emphasis on underrepresented and underserved students in CLAHS (peer mentoring program, academic and professional development workshops, events) and partner with campus entities to develop high-impact initiatives tailored to underrepresented and underserved students in CLAHSProvide consultation to and programming for departments and schools in the College to strengthen climate of belonging and inclusion for students and to assist departments and schools to enact diversity initiatives in their unitsServe as a touchpoint in CLAHS DEI for underrepresented minority students and connect students to relevant campus resources as needed Assist with recruitment activities, particularly those tied to underrepresented and underserved student recruitment through University Admissions and the Office of Inclusion and Diversity Develop resources and tools to assist individuals in the College in developing their capacity to respond to the needs of underrepresented or underserved studentsAssist in the collection, evaluation, and reporting of data to inform, evaluate, and assess CLAHS DEI efforts Serve as College liaison to student-focused inclusion and diversity entities on campus, and identify strategies for effective collaboration between the College and campus partnersSome evening and weekend hours are required.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in a humanities or social science discipline Experience in implementing programming for underrepresented, underserved, and/or minoritized studentsKnowledge of issues specific to underrepresented and underserved student populations Experience in teaching or training, group facilitation, or public speakingPreferred QualificationsGraduate degree in a humanities, social science, or higher education/student affairs or other education-related areaBackground in Africana or African American Studies, Latinx Studies, Asian American Studies, or related fields Experience in applying student development and racial identity development theories in programming or training contextsKnowledge of the ecosystem of student resources at a large research institution Experience planning and coordinating student recruitment programs Experience with use of qualitative and quantitative methods for assessment and evaluationThe College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences(CLAHS) at Virginia Tech combines the wide-ranging intellectual exploration of the liberal arts with the technological advantages of a leading university and the civic engagement of a land-grant institution.
