Reports To : Principal Mentor Overview
The Boston Public Schools Aspiring Principal Fellowship gives current Boston Public Schools employees who aspire to school leadership the opportunity to learn, from practical experience, the skills and knowledge necessary to make an effective transition into a principalship in the following year. During the fellowship, fellows will be paired with a Mentor Principal with whom they'll work closely all year, partnering on instruction, management and operations, family and community engagement, professional culture and other areas. Responsibilities Assist the Principal in planning and administering the instructional program of the school. Assist the Principal in evaluation and recommendation of all personnel in the school. Assist the Principal in training staff. Assist the Principal in developing and or implementing the Comprehensive Plan for the school, both annual and long-range. Serve on the Instructional Leadership Team and attend all meetings. Assist the Principal in developing and administering a school budget. Assist the Principal in school board policy. Assist the Principal in hiring. Assist the Principal in the school's day-to-day operations such as student entry and dismissal, organizing and sorting assessments, carrying out the operations of the school, etc. Assist the Principal in developing and or implementing a family and community engagement program for the school. Assist the Principal in cultivating and promoting reflective, adaptive, and collaborative behaviors and skills of self and others in leading change or confronting new challenges. Program Commitments In additional to their work with their Mentor Principal, as outlined above, fellows are required to attend the following trainings led by the Office of Leadership Development: Program Orientation: June 26-27, 2024 Program Summer Intensive: July 22-26, 2024 Qualifications - Required: Current Boston Public Schools employee. 3-5 years teaching and/or administrative experience. Demonstrate communication skills of listening, oral communication and oral presentation. Demonstrate interpersonal skills and abilities. Knowledge of human growth and development Extensive knowledge of elementary/ middle school curriculum. Evidence of effective decision-making skills and management skills. Possess strong work standards for self and others. Maintain a personal vision of equity that aligns with the BPS mission: As the birthplace of public education in this nation, the Boston Public Schools is committed to transforming the lives of all children through exemplary teaching in a world-class system of innovative, welcoming schools. We partner with the community, families and students to develop within every learner the knowledge, skill, and character to excel in college, career, and life. Current authorization to work in the United States An understanding of and commitment to gain greater understanding of what is necessary for an urban school system to enjoy continuous improvement in an increasingly complex and competitive environment A deeply held and unyielding belief in the overarching mission of public education Terms : Managerial, effective July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2025. Fellows will be compensated based on the Boston Teachers Union salary scales.
