The Area Mechanical Engineer is a technical position supporting routine maintenance of all equipment, with emphasis on fixed equipment, within the refinery. The position helps ensure correct identification of failure mechanisms, timely technical assessment of repair plans and alternatives, quality of workmanship, and overall availability and reliability of mechanical equipment. This position will report directly to the Routine Maintenance Superintendent and will work a 4-10 schedule. Responsibilities may include: Participates and promotes all aspects of the refinery safety program. Demonstrates leadership to the workplace safety and health of employees and contractors through personal engagement and sound decisions. Provides primary technical support for routine maintenance of fixed equipment including temporary repair plans, equipment specification, piping modifications, structural reviews, documentation reviews, and other technical evaluations. Develops, revises, or provides recommended input for mechanical PM procedures. Coordinates engineering activities with site reliability, process, and project engineering teams in long range planning, equipment design, capital vs. expense assessments, critical spare and component inventories, quality assurance, and start-up assistance. Contributes to the development of scope, equipment specification, planning, and execution of refinery turnaround and routine maintenance outages. Responds effectively to refinery operational events and provides support for equipment shutdown and startup as needed. Demonstrates effective communication, engagement, and personal interaction with internal groups including maintenance, operations, inspection, process and project engineering, and corporate technical networks. Works heavily with maintenance teams in the selection and overall engagement with vendors, consultants, and service providers including service procurement, technical design reviews, shop visits to audit repair quality, and acting as site sponsors for contractor safety. Leads or participates in meetings including daily operation, equipment reliability reviews, maintenance scheduling, incident investigations, etc. Provides temporary backfill for maintenance supervision, as necessary. Leads or participates in IMPACT investigations and Management of Change (MOC). Required Qualifications: Legally authorized to work in the job posting country. Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering field. Willing and able to perform and comply with the following: Occasional travel. Work extended hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays Respond to refinery emergencies during off-hours. Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines. Climb ladders and stairs up to 200 feet in height Work around chemicals, including acids and bases. Work around hydrocarbons under high pressure and heat Work outside in harsh weather conditions. Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toe shoes, ear, and eye protection.). Maintain your face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly (some examples include being free of facial hair and/or clean shaven). Possess a valid Driver's License. Willing and able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Preferred Qualifications: Strong and effective communication skills (verbal and written) in both individual and group seffings which includes report writing, business correspondence, procedure manuals and presentations. Ability to work on cross discipline teams. 3 or more years of experience in refinery or chemical plant mechanical engineering roles. Accepts ownership, is accountable and delivers on commitments. Strong technical knowledge and ability to apply practical solutions in the field. Strong leadership skills and the ability to work well with others. Understanding of engineering drawings and P&ID's. Ability to manage a large workload and changing priorities. Mechanical aptitude and good problem-solving skills, including root cause failure analysis. Working knowledge of industry codes (API, ASME, etc.) and refining standards. Understanding of fixed equipment design, construction, and operating principles. Proficient with Bently Nevada vibration monitoring hardware and software. Understanding of rotating equipment design, construction, and operating principles. Understanding of material properties, welding techniques, and post weld treatments of various grades of carbon steel and alloys. Understanding of basic instrument design and low voltage applications, construction, and operating principles. Understanding of refinery equipment failure modes, corrosion mechanisms, and inspection techniques. Understanding of refinery business drivers and the use of Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA). Understanding of risk-based decision making, risk assessments, and available tools and resources. Good working knowledge of MOC processes, as well as engineering, inspection, and operations procedures. Proficient in MS Office. SAP experience. The Ferndale Refinery is located on Puget Sound in Ferndale, Washington, approximately 20 miles south of the U.S.-Canada border. Facilities include crude distillation, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation and hydrodesulfurization units. It processes a variety crude oils, including Alaskan North Slope, Canadian and other foreign and U.S. shale crudes, primarily delivered via marine vessel and pipeline. Within the refinery is a rail car crude oil receiving facility with a capacity of 30,000 BPD. This offloading facility, owned by Phillips 66 Partners, makes the receipt of additional crude by rail car possible. The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels. Other products include residual fuel oil, which is supplied to the northwest marine bunker fuel market. Most refined products are distributed to customers by pipeline and barge to major markets in the northwestern United States. Benefits

The base pay range for this role is $111,150 - $ 152,250 depending on a candidate's relevant work experience and education.
