The Area Manager is responsible for all aspects of operations and people management within our fast-paced veterinary hospital, as well oversight of a specified number of other hospitals and Hospital Managers. The main responsibilities of the Area Manager center around HR functions, including hiring and staffing, training and performance management, business/P&L management and instituting and maintaining compliance with policies and procedures that ensure safe and efficient practices within the hospital environment. Furthermore, the Area Manager is expected to coach, support and hold accountable local Hospital Managers to meet their financial and team responsibilities.
People and Culture Management Hiring and appropriate staffing of the hospital Creating and maintaining a healthy and engaged hospital culture focused on quality medical practicesSuccessful management of all aspects of people development including training and onboarding of new
team members and continued career development of our valued teammatesMaintain an effective and engaged work environment by proactively addressing and resolving conflict
within the hospitalHold teammates accountable for performance and behavior, ensuring all teammates are following all
guidelines outlined in the employee handbook. Address and document teammate issues following the progressive discipline process and in partnership
with your Regional Operations DirectorSupport the needs of the Doctors through coaching and execution of appropriate teammate scheduling,
maintaining an appropriate client schedule, and coaching the team on opportunities that will improve
their skills and efficiencyOrganize and facilitate effective, regularly scheduled meetings with DVM team members and hospital
staffCoach and support Hospital Managers in their function as leaders of their hospitals (between three to
five in addition to home hospital)Local travel required, up to 2 days a weekFinancial Management Meet and exceed agreed upon business goals and objectives for home hospital and supervised area
hospitalsMeet established EBITDA goals for supervised areahospitals based on agreement with Regional
Operations DirectorOn time delivery of reports and business-related deliverables Monitor all financial and operational metrics ensuring deviations are addressed timely and appropriatelyEffective P&L management including appropriate management of Cost of Goods and laborAbility to communicate and deliver a message about financial progress and outcomes on to multiple
audiences (home office and field leadership, DVMs, and team members)Review and discuss medical metrics and reporting with the DVM team and field leadership to ensure the
highest quality of medicine within the hospitalAbility to communicate hospital goals and objectives to all team members in a way that supports both
agreed upon business outcomes and hospital cultureManage cost containment including inventory management, cash/banking control, loss prevention,
collections of accounts receivable, and office and medical supply orderingParticipate in the financial budgeting process in partnership with field leadershipMaintain a safe work environment by managing and monitoring all OSHA guidelines, DEA compliance,
and all local, state and federal laws (including both medical governance and employee labor guidelines)Client Management Partnership with clients ensuring a positive experience for them and their petsProvide leadership to teammates on providing a professional and exceptional client experienceProactively addressing client concerns Representing the client in the community through participation in local events as neededEffectively use resources within the organization and opportunities outside of the organization to build
relationships with the community and market the hospital to prospective clientsProvide leadership to teammates regarding effective client scheduling and communication processes
with clients regarding patient schedulingRequired Education & Experience Bachelor's degree and/or relevant work experience Experience recruiting, interviewing and selecting high quality team membersExcellent communication skills with demonstrated success tailoring messages to various audiences Previous P&L management experience which includes proven success driving results and managing labor
